Why can I not send messages in colour as I don’t seem to get reply’s in normal lettering ?

I don't think such a feature would make a difference to whether people get replies.

Font colour won’t help if a message doesn’t get read.

And many don’t read them after viewing the profile first

Wouldn’t make a difference to whether I reply or not lol I check the profile first and don’t open if they don’t meet my requirements

Font colour won’t help. The content of a profile and message are what gets noticed.

So to change colour in the chat room you need to be using the DESKTOP version of the site

The MOBILE version does not yet support different colour text
