I’m having difficulty selecting a new profile photo?

Says “set image to public first?

You have to make the picture public so you can use it as your profile picture. There's a list of options on the gallery picture itself. Click on public, scroll down then hit save. You can then use it as your profile picture.

Then if you don't want to keep it public, set it back to friends only and it will remain as profile pic
