Smileys not working

Wonder if anyone can help.

My smiley faces , thumbs up etc etc are not working when i send messages, and come up as ?? Which can look rather rude and demanding to someone reading it..has anyone any suggestions ?

Are you using the ones on site?

Those on your phone/tablet/etc won't work no.

You can still type : ) (together obviously) and that should also work

Hi , thanks for the responce. Yes i am using the ones on this site...and i have tried as suggested, manual typing it. Same problem, it appears as something else...i will take a look at that link...thanks again for trying to help.
