My account says I have 5 friends on here, without me ever adding or confirming them. Neither does it allow me to view said 5 friends. Do these people have my personal info/pictures at their disposal, or is this an common site error?

I believe this is the admins posted updates. As we have no friends and are seeing this to and there’s 5 admin posts. Everyone must automatically be invisible friends with the admin to view the sites posted updates.

Nope, you don't automatically become friends with Admin, those posts on the home page are under 'Site News' not friend updates.

Where does it say you have 5 friends?

At the top of the updates page. So it could well refer to those 5 posts. Looking on my friends page, it's a blank screen (I'm hugely popular at present).
