I knew the middle letter must be one of the three remaining vowels I hadn't used in my first guess. I didn't want to waste rows with the wrong middle letter so I decided to use a word with two of the three remaining vowels plus two of the letters which could occur for the final two letters.

When I got nothing correct I could work out the word.
