I bet most people didn't appreciate that requirement and assumed free movement was exactly that and had no idea of the hidden catch in the small print." Apparently the French have deported over 3,000 Brits since 2016 under the freedom of movement rules! | |||

You could also ask why so many French are living and working in England, especially London "The UK has the largest French population outside of mainland France - larger than the French dependencies In the UK almost all the French are employed and pay into the tax etc system In France the majority of UK residents are retired/not working/not paying tax etc so economically the UK government will feel it financially if all French left. Conversely the same is not true if we all left France! | |||

" It’s often been quoted that London has the 5th to 7th largest French population but truth is that nobody knows for sure since EU citizens have not been required to register their nationality up to now. Certainly we know of younger French friends who have left or are planning to leave London this year after many years Résidence. | |||

Not just UK but citizens from across the EU. Most ordered to leave because they didn’t have a legal right to stay and didn’t have sufficient income to support themselves. The 2018/19 figure was around 1300€ p month I think " I think you will find that a sizeable chunk (if not a majority) of those deported were actually Roma who had been living rough in illegal camps. | |||
