Who else has to pull out a map of France every time someone says which department they are in. Place names typically mean more to me - cities and towns rather than regions

It’s really no different then saying Essex(gods county) or Yorkshire and if you know France then most will roughly know where a dept is.

Côte d'Azur & Great Yarmouth

Well, if you know your own (we’re in 83) you’ll know your neighbouring ones, i.e. how far you’re prepared to travel and/or who’s likely to come to you. So although 06 and 13 are feasible for us, 29 isn’t. Unfortunately, despite its popularity even 34 is a bit of a drag for us.

At least until I can find a Port de Plaisance on the Canal du Midi for our boat (it’s not really suitable for the Med). With waiting lists of years, that ain’t likely to happen for quite some while!
