Costa Blanca Spain... |
Well we have finally returned home from our 2 weeks in Cap and to be honest it was a bit of a disappointment this year.
Maybe it was the weather (way too hot) or because we had such a good one last year, or even that after 10 years we are starting to grow out of the place (or we are just getting too old LOL)
Don’t get us wrong, it wasn’t all bad so I’ll start with the up side before I depress you all with the other.
Firstly, I would like to thank Lustandesire and Silent Running for their superb patio socials, they were a real highlight of the trip. Also, I’d like to thank everyone who turned up to the Bodega bar social on the 23rd June and made it such a success. As always in Cap we met a lot of old friends and met some wonderful new ones (you all know who you are)
Staying with the up side, the only club that we really enjoyed this year was the H d’O sauna. Because of the weather we only got in there a couple of times but, as always, the place really does deliver the goods even when it’s quiet, but more of that later.
Now for a bit more detail on what have been our usual haunts.
**Bodega Bar**
Probably the best value for money of all the bars in the village. A DJ every night and a live band at least a couple of nights per week made it (for us anyway) the place to go in the evenings. It was busy every night and very lively later on. It even managed to get Mrs H pole dancing, and on the hot nights it was great to jump into the pool at gone midnight to cool down. Also, the best drinks prices in the village.
**02’Bizoux (Wokkers)**
You couldn’t wish to meet two nicer guys than Miguel & Laurent. Always friendly and welcoming and these guys really work their socks off to make sure everything is right. They’ve also done a good job of brightening the place up from the Jonny & Jenny days.
We didn’t go in every night this year but to us it seems like there is something not right.
A couple of nights were really busy but we popped down there a few other nights and the place was dead. Maybe the exceptionally hot weather affected it (it can be stifling down there) or that quite a few of the regulars we’ve seen in Cap for many years (both British and German) just weren’t there this year, or maybe that patio socials seem to be getting more popular. Or, and it has to be said, the drinks are just starting to get a bit expensive even by Cap standards.
We don’t see how what is essentially a drinking meeting place bar can charge the same (or in some cases more) as other places that are putting on live entertainment. I understand that the guys only have a short time to make their money, and if the rent figure that I’ve heard bandied about is true, I really feel for them, but it is a competitive market and it does seem that quite a few of the old regulars are voting with their feet. I would be interested to hear how it goes for them later in the season.
**Foam Parties**
The foam parties have turned into quite sterile (by previous standards) pool parties with a bit of foam just on the side. There is absolutely no party atmosphere in the foam at all and just a few minutes of party around the pool, and most of that was aimed at the so-called VIP’s on the expensive beds. The foam seems to get switched on later and off earlier every year.
In previous years if you got yourself in the queue at 1.30 you were pretty much guaranteed to get a decent sunbed, not so this year. The system now is that anyone who buys lunch in the adjacent bar can get their receipt signed and jump the queue, meaning that people (like us) who queued from 1.15 were scratching around to even get one at all. In effect to get a bed the price is now around 55/60€ per couple with a free salad or pizza.
To be fair the basic entrance price is the same as last year and only one or two small increases on the drinks.
**Kamasutra Spa**
We really like this place and with it being so hot this year it trumped the beach as the place to go in the afternoons. The staff there are great, the pool was wonderful (and needed) and you can pop downstairs for some fun when you want it.
The only downside this year is that the number of single guys was much less than previous years (price?). That’s great if you are not really into single guys but if (like us) you are then you could be disappointed. Of course, Mrs H had some fun but the ratio of couples to guys made it much harder work than previous years.
**Jeux de Mains**
For years this has been our “go to” club when Mrs wanted some fun without having too late a night. We could go in around midnight and stay an hour or so and she always came out happy.
This year we decided to give it a go for the first time on our middle Saturday. We arrived pretty much dead on midnight and stayed until just after 1.30. In all that time there were barely 10 people in the place. Two other couples and 3 or 4 single guys and this was a Saturday night. This place always had a reputation for getting into gangbang territory very quickly. Now you would be lucky to find a gang to bang.
**Le Tantra**
We went into Tantra twice this year. The first time was on our first Saturday and the place was packed (maybe a bit too packed) There were lots of single guys in the place but they were mostly young (in some cases very young) North African types whose idea of swinger fun was to pop their cock through their zip and stick it in any available hole, or try to finger a pussy to destruction in the style of the last porn movie they watched. Mrs had a bit of a play but lost interest very quickly.
To make it worse we went upstairs and she tripped on the little step between the couples and mixed area, grazed her knee and headbutted the patio heater. After that we thought it was time to beat the retreat.
We tried again on a Thursday night and were greeted by the always excellent door staff who had remembered her little mishap and gave us two extra drink tickets for the standard price.
It was busy but not as crazy as the Saturday and the first thing we noticed is that they had altered the little step she tripped over. Top marks to all concerned. This time she managed to get some fun with a couple of guys (one who was very good) and a decent night was had.
**H d’O (2et2) Sauna**
As I said above, when it comes to delivering the goods this place always seems to hit all the right buttons. This year Mrs managed more fun in two visits here than in all the other places put together. I’m not sure if that is a compliment for the sauna or a brickbat for the others. They have spent a lot of money refurbishing the place over the winter and it really looks good in there now.
However, like nearly everything in Cap this year, there is a down side. For the full day ticket, it is now 60€ for a couple and a whopping 85€ for a single guy While we did have a good time in there, we did notice that the numbers fell well short of what we have seen in previous years.
** The Beach**
Because of the heat we only went down to the beach twice, but even there we noticed that things had changed.
The atmosphere seemed very subdued (again maybe the heat) and the real action (crop circles) didn’t really get going until 6pm ish. Even then it was much less that we have seen in all the years. Also, while still very busy it just didn’t seem to get as packed as what we would expect. The whole thing seemed very low key.
**Single Guys**
Anyone who knows us or has read our profile (OK I know it’s rare on here) will know that we go to Cap and swinger clubs in general mostly for single guys. We have always said that Cap is single guy friendly, but at a price. However, we are thinking that the price is now getting far too high.
This year we can count on one hand the number of international (non-French) single guys we have met there. Over the years we have met loads of British, German, Dutch, Italian, Scandinavian, and many others. This year we have spoken to two British and one Irish. That’s it! It really does look like they are staying away and at 85€ for a day in the sauna who can blame them?
**General Observations**
Our general feeling is that Cap seems to take more money and give less every year and for the first time ever we are questioning whether or not we want to go back.
Over the years when people on here have complained about the prices we have always answered that Cap is unique and you just have to pay it. Now we are thinking very differently.
Of course, the naked village atmosphere is something you can’t really get anywhere else but we reckon that we can do around 80% of what we do in Cap from our place in Spain.
Naturist beaches? Plenty and even one where you can have fun in the dunes behind. Swinger clubs? OK we have to drive but have seven within an hour. Add to that we can drink in a local bar where a glass of wine is 1.50€ and a bottle of beer is 1€. A meal out with wine for under a tenner and we don’t have to pay the thick end of two grand for a small apartment.
We will never say never, but will think long and hard as to whether or not we go back next year.
