I’m far from a tight arse but just don’t like being taken advantage of. Just tried booking camping Rene Oltra for one night in my tent. 42 euros which is steep but ok bearing in mind where it is but they also want a 17 Euro online booking fee! How does that work then?

Standard practice and you will also be charged tourist tax!

The other option is don't go - your choice.

I won’t. A 17 Euro booking fee when I’ve done all the work online is just wrong. Their loss.

I am afraid that Cap d Agde is an expensive place. A booking fee spread over a week is only a small amount . It may seem high in your case because you only want to stay a night .

It is still a lot cheaper than a hotel room or apartment.

Context. Just down the road Serignan Plage naturist site. Camping 1 night in August 82 euro including booking fee! Looks like Rene Oltra is a bargain!

Just booked up 11 nights from 26th August 347 euro ? bargain I think ?

the initiator of this blog would have received a further shock if he had booked as on top of the price is day card to get into village 13 euro and if not a member of a naturist society a further 18 euro ?

this later practice is only targeted at single guys ???? strange

But all in all worth every penny see you all there Les XxxX

All the main agents charge a booking fee its the norm. You may think its a rip off but lets look the other side of the coin:

1. Buy a domain name

2. Website design

3. Annual costs to web hosts

4. Bi annual payments for domain.

5. Costs of setting up a secure payment platform.

So as you can see there are two sides to every story....

Beach gardens €64 tonight plus €30 online booking fee I think.

Oltra €41 tonight

But you can just walk in and out of beach gardens without additional fees of the village entry card.

Having stayed at both I know where I would stay even if the prices were reversed!

Marsellian plage is cheap but it's a family camp site. It is right next to the beach and if you go right and walk 100 yards you are on the naturist beach. However, it is about a mile or more down to the actual resort, which is ok by day but i wouldnt want to walk back at night. The beach may not be as safe. There is no quick road either. So it's a drive or a taxi.

We have stayed in both places both fine but if you want the full experience you would have to go for the actual village.

Beach garden is more expensive and a long walk home at 5 in the morning and if security are on the ball will stop you at entry to village its about time every official visitor to The Village had a security wrist band as is mandatory for Campsite would make the whole place a lot safer for all ???? just my opinion of course have fun Les XxxX

If you turn up at Oltra there would be no booking fee.

But you will still need to pay for entry to the naturist village

And you might get turned back( as you should by the security)

Because you are not staying in the village.

Thanks for all you help and advice. I’m not after something for nothing or trying to buck the system. I’m cycling solo along the coast and thought I would experience the Cap. It just came as a surprise in comparison to standard campsites where I’ve never had a booking charge.

Anyway, way out of my comfort zone solo cycling and just had a reality check - 20 euros for a nice site, tent up and showered - realised I haven’t bought any under pants so had to put sweaty ones back on. Real disaster though - pumped up air bed only to find it has a leak, a big one! So, if can’t fix it will have e to sleep on beach.

Oh how I’m missing my lovely caravan which is back in the Loire region.

The alternative is to just turn up. Suspect you'll get in, maybe not on a chosen pitch.

Just have in mind that they do put a lot of effort into ensuring that that they check the pitch you want is actually available for your dates and they therefore reply 3 times to you. It sounds steep if you only want a night or two but spread over 2 weeks it's not worth considering.

Perhaps the best advice is: you'll get over the wee bit of money...enjoy you holiday and if you are there between 1st Sept and 10 Sept come say hello.

Have you thought that in terms of fun and value, everyone else can't be wrong?

I need to swallow my pride. I did turn up. The girl in the main office was great and very welcoming. Rene Oltra reception was terrific. No issue of me being the dreaded ‘single guy ‘.

Stayed two nights and it was a great experience. The campsite and facilities were far better than I’d been led to believe. Why have the caravan clubs never given a review?

Anyway, had a great time , met a lovely couple and went back to their apartment. Saw some amazing sights- would love to go back with the right partner.
