I posted this link originally in Politics but feel its better in this section.

This is aimed at second home owners in France and the impact of brexit after we leave. Here is a link to a specialist magazine :

www.connexionfrance.com/french-news/brexit/brexit-and-second-home-owners

Has some very useful info regardless of how you voted. And explains the freedom of movement and 90 day rule. Also rules for visiting and the requirements which have to be given on entry!

Hope it's useful.

Bonne chance!

Well we will have to wait and see what the EU decide.

However if they are too prescriptive and bring in expensive visas then they will shoot themselves in the foot.

France, Spain and Italy rely on tourism for a big part of their budget and UK visitors are a large proportion of visitors. If I can only visit for 3 months in future rather than the current 6 months then my local spending will halve.

That's the same rules which apply to Americans, Canadians, Australians -3rd countries - the UK will not be any different. Interestingly, out of 45 rentals this year only 2 Brits and we have been fully booked so there are plenty of visitors from around the world comming and already booked for next year!

i would think that the ratio of americans in france compaired to brits is close on 10 Brits to 1 American. That article shows how many things people did not think would happen when voting to leave. we are gutted but hope we do get an agreement with eu.

i wonder how many people who voted out will moan about not getting benefits from membership.

e.g. delayed flight compensation ,ehic card etc

But the health service is going to get some of the 350 million a day lol ....yea government already back tracking on that one!

actually our renters came mainly from Europe - notably Dutch, Danes, Belgium & Swiss. Having said that we have had American, Russian, Canadian, Brazilian, Columbian & Australian, 2 or more from each country other than Columbians. Strangely French renters were 45% last year but dropped this year - possibly down to strikes and of course us being booked early by all the foreigners!

It’s not just the UK that loses out after Brexit, the UK’s contribution to the EU was 17 %, that’s a big hit!

The whole Eurpean experiment is now on very shaky ground, intransigence by EU beaurocrats has alienated the most dynamic country in the union, what a pity and what short-sightedness.

If the uk leaves

Most likely scenario is that the deal which is going to be bad.... certainly not palatable

Will actually end up forcing a vote on the deal

However

As we found with the original Brexit vote

The great british public can certainly

“Pull the rabbit out of the hat “ lol

"The eu in its current form will not be the same in 5 years time ..after UK leave ...italy will follow soon after"

It all depends on how the UK fair. If it fails then nobody will follow the UK lead, however if it's a success then maybe. The problem with Italy is that it's in the Euro and if it were to leave it would loose the Euro as it's legal tender. It can bring in the Lira again, but even if it adopts a 1€ =1Lr immediately it's launched the new currency will devalue. The current government are currently discussing a parallel currency - as did the Greek finance minister (YV) before he was sacked. Italy has numerous problems all stemming from the fall of Mussolini and the new constitution - the collapse of the bridge in Genoa being a prime example!

Unfortunately because France is consistently the world's top tourist destination in numbers of people, and the UN figures show Brits are a very small proportion, there's little chance of that swaying them

Ceredigion / N France

People have had second homes in other countries including France for years and long before the EEC or EU was born.

Red tape may increase and as already pointed the maximum duration of a single stay may be reduced but we won't be banned .... well except from Germany perhaps !! (Joke)

Well that's in my humble opinion anyway

Very true but rules have changed since "before we joined" - That's the past we have to accommodate the new ones! Yes a lot of red tape especially for those of us here permanently but that's just the way it is! No one is trying to ban anyone, the EU like the UK is just protecting its borders!
