We're off to Cap for our first time in a few weeks (nervously excited!) but also have a few days in Carcassonne and Beziers. We'd love to visit a nice vineyard and do some wine tasting, but don't know the region very well.

Any recommendations for nice places in that sort of area? We'll have a car so remoteness isn't an issue.

Chateau de cassan in a town called Quarante - between Bezier & Carcassonne. Fabulous restaurant and hotel as well as vineyard.

Right beside Bezier Airport is a vineyard. Drive out from the airport car park, and take the first on the left before going over the railway. Follow that road to its end, turn left, and drive into the chateaux. Tasting sessions most days in a small office beside the car park. Well worth a trip.

In the 10 mile stretch of road between Marseillan and Meze are 5 or 6 Domains, most have wine tasting.

Our favourite is La Fadeze, the red is super and if you’re around for while you can buy in bulk (vrac) 5ltrs for not very much.

The Madeline St John in Marseillan by the Port is good but avoid the local Richmer.

Costa Blanca Spain...

On our way up from Spain we always stop in Fitou. It's about an hour from Cap.

There are quite a few wineries there where you can taste and buy.

Our favourite is Domaine Maynardier which is on the main road just south of the village.

Strangely enough there is a swinger club just a few metres further down the road. Not tried it yet though.

We agree with these guys...chataeu is called Robert Vic and all the shops and restaurants stock their wines...the rose is a must during summer and is very reasonable at 27 euros for 10 litres!!!

The cave cooperative in Serignan is also good price from around 5€ per bottle.

This cave is in Pinet, just a short drive from Cap.

Great selection of wind in bottles or boxes.

Take your own 5 litre container (or buy one there for €3) and they'll fill it with red, white or rosé for €7...!!

It's best d*unk within a week, but ours rarely hangs around that long before we enjoy it.

And it's just up the road from Terre de Soleil and L'E_tasia, so you could combine the two in one day.

We buy our red from around the Cap/Cote de Thau but go further afield for our white and rosé.

The Vallée des Arômes in Herepian has some lovely whites and the Mas des Musiciens at Octon near Lac du Salagou have great Rosé, they also do a nice Chardonnay but their superb Sauvignon is mostly reserved for the Bezier restaurants,

The scenery around this area is also spectacular and worth seeing.

We all think the Picpoul de Pinet is over rated!

The back road from Bessan to Marseillian has about a dozen domains - never tried any but may be worth a try. Not too much travelling lol.

We top our supplies up from the Ormarine Cave in Pinet. Their sparkling Picpoul went down a treat at our wedding bash.

Spend over 200€ and you get an extra 10% discount.

Their cask wines are often served in the Village.

That's the great thing about wine here.

It's all a matter of preference. What's popular with some people is poison to others

But that means you have a great excuse to go out and try some from other domains that you're not familiar with.

We take the view that if a €5 bottle tastes better to you than a €20 bottle, then you've struck gold.

There's so much BS spoken about wine. Just drink the ones you like and to hell with it....

PS. We love the idea of a group road trip for wine tasting. Who want to organise it...?

Quite right about wine if it suits your pallet then that's all that matters. Everyone is different - but it's nice to try - variety is the spice of life!

There is a nice vigneron just outside Bezier - La Baume nice Sauvignion blanc.

Hospitalet is lovely any of the wines from the la clape area which is the area back of narbonne plage are worth trying. If your a bit back from there then pouzols minervois has a fabulous cave cooperative. Friendly and helpful. Enjoy

We visited this place just a week or so ago. Ended up sharing the wine with friends who liked it so much they scoffed the lot and took our remaining bottles back home with them...!!

Head for the beautiful town of Marseillan, a short drive from Cap. For something a little different visit the Noilly Prat vermouthery. They do great tours and tasting. Check beforehand because the tours are timetabled and done in different languages. Whilst in Marseillan, pop into Madeleine Saint Jean on Port Rive Gauche - check out their Voignier.

For those who know the film "A Good Year" the vineyard features in the film Chateau la Canorgue is only a couple of hours up the motorway.

The Coin Perdue which is a boutique wine in the film can be purchased for a mere 20€ per bottle but has to be laid for 2 years before drinking - will let you know results next year! You can get a drinkable vintage from about 60€ a bottle.

Will let you know in October 19! Fingers crossed we like it. Because it's so expensive there are "no samples" to taste before you buy. We are no wine buffs - if we like it we buy it. Only have 3 bottles so only 60€ at "risk" - we could always cook with it lol.

idiotically I once spent 20euros with 20 mad frenchmen who purchased a 400 euro bottle of Bourgogne. We had a thimble full each and then they spent the next hour eulogising in an orgy of adjectives. Both my french and my tastebuds weren't up to the test, clearly 'good wine' is wasted on me!

Seriously though Aldi France stock a wonderful Corbiers for around 2€ a bottle. One of the best value every day wines we've had.

It's called Domaine Villefalse (or something like that) We always chuck a couple of boxes in the car when we drive through France.

Great lunch in Loupian followed by another tasting and purchases at

Ormarine 19.80 for 10l rose was too tempting for this wine heathen !

Is it a lighter coloured rose? We have found that's what we prefer.
