Appreciate there are already plenty of posts and info from the regulars, but thought it might be useful to post a review of our recent first visit to Cap, and give a short review of some of the places we visited, all of which might prove helpful or reassuring to other first timers.

Other reviews are available.

We were there early July. Have included some costs for information - we don't skimp on holidays, but there is a lot of variety so it is possible to do things much cheaper than we did if you need to.

Travel - flew dreaded Ryanair from Edinburgh to Beziers. Taxi from Beziers to the AGN office just outside the naturist village. Checked in, left bags there whilst we walked to the entry kiosk to get our visitor passes to the village. AGN staff all spoke perfect English, and their whole process was very easy to deal with. Once checked in the AGN staff gave us a lift to our apartment in a buggy - saved carrying the luggage, even though it would only have been a short walk. Note to mods - this is not intended as a promotion of a specific service - just a review - other people we spoke to who had used other agencies had equally positive views of those.

Accommodation -Our apartment was situated on the first floor of Heliopolis, overlooking the car park! However, the apartment was very modern, small but fairly luxurious with everything we needed. We were glad we had a full size window shutter (kept things dark when sleeping in!) and aircon - having experienced how hot it is we would only have an apartment with aircon in future.

Naturism - very few (if any) clothes are worn by anyone during the day - an occasional wrap or pair of shorts - and things are all the better for it. You will see all ages, shapes and sizes - the general atmosphere in the village during the day is decidedly non-sexual. We hardly met any British people the whole time we were there, and only even heard a home accent a few times.

Shops - you can buy everything in the village (naked of course) from your daily supermarket shopping through to lingerie, clubwear, beach accessories etc.

Eating out - plenty of cheap pizza places, but some good restaurants too - notably Ghymnos, Mississippi and Horizon. Slightly bizarrely there is a very good Thai restaurant too located near Helio. Expect to pay 50 to 100 euros for a couple of courses and drinks/coffee. Excellent service everywhere.

Speaking French - we speak almost no French, but always tried what few phrases we had, which always went down well - most service staff had very good English, and with smiles and sign language we never had a problem.

Security - lots of police and security people around - the whole place felt completely safe at all times of the day and night.

Beach - about a 10 or 15 minute walk from Helio to the swingers beach area. There is a nice beach bar serving drinks and snacks. The central section of the beach gets packed, but just 10 yards or so to the rear there is plenty of room. The beach (like everywhere else) was notably busier at the weekend. There is a lifeguard/security station overlooking the beach, but no-one seemed to mind 'discreet' play during the day. Absolutely no problem from single guys - there were always some around, and would often lie close by and gaze wistfully at MrsMoo, but completely polite and respectful. The beach is scorching, so you will need to lug along mats/towels and an umbrella/shade, unless you pay for the loungers which are adjacent.

Pools - booking with AGN got us a free unlimited pass to Waiki Beach - a pool and café/bar located in the centre of the village, and this was a real find - its 15 euros for entry otherwise. Really comfy shades and loungers, lovely pool, chilled music, mildly erotic atmosphere and very attentive staff bring you cocktails, lovely food and assorted refreshments all day - then present you with an enormous bill when you leave. Worth every penny, and we spent pretty much every other day there if we weren't on the beach. Spent about 100 euros each day there.

Bars - limitless choice. Wokkers is the default seemingly for the british visitors (but we didn't encounter many) with nice owners and a very nice terrace overlooking the sea. Melrose the (in)famous bar is packed and throbbing - lots of pole dancing, noise, general rowdiness, showing off - great if that is your thing - didn't get much of a 'swingers' vibe there though - more a 'being a bit naughty on holiday' atmosphere.

Swingers Clubs - didn't visit them all, so our club reviews are (like always with clubs) to be taken with the caveat that they are different every night. Note that Europeans don't mess about in clubs - they are not so much into endless chatting and socialising - play is open and they will reach out and see if you want to join in - this approach suits us perfectly, but might be a bit direct for others. No-one is ever persistent or impolite though. Generally the clubs seem to have a variable price for entry, which depends on how many inclusive drinks you have eg 30 euros with 2 drinks, or 50 euros including 4 drinks etc. You pays your money and you takes your choice.

Glamour Foam Party - every day 2pm to 7pm and fabulous. Pay to get in (25 euros?) and get there early so you can get a spot for your towel. You have to strip off and go in completely naked (not even shoes) - you can only take a towel. There is a bar, open loungers/play area, huge Jacuzzi and in a separate area what is best described as a 'foam filled pen' - lots of touching! Play and swinging is all in the open. Brilliant, sexy and quite glamorous.

Glamour Swingers Club - large club, play areas downstairs, several bars. Young crowd, all very friendly. Play areas downstairs were packed. Strict dress code - everyone looked smart. Didn't get going until midnight. Great fun and (like everywhere really) friendly crowd and a good atmosphere.

Le Jules - located underneath Waiki beach. We only stayed an hour - the clientele would best be described as 'mature' and it was nearly empty.

Tantra - downstairs was a bar/dancefloor, upstairs couples play area (with bar) and also area for single guys. All open play, very attentive staff 'wiping down' every exposed inch of surface continuously! Heavy, full on play straight away. The single guys (in separate area) very polite and a great atmosphere. Our favourite.

Clair Obscure - the BDSM club, and not often reviewed, presumably as it is a bit 'niche'. Very strict dress code for entry. Well equipped with separate 'rooms' and lots of equipment. Dark and sultry vibe, very hushed - an intense experience with a lot of different 'scenes' going on and a very wide ranging clientele. Far and away the best BDSM related venue we have ever been to. Some fairly extreme stuff going on, so not necessarily for the faint hearted, but we loved it.

That's as far as we got - this time! We'll definitely be back next year - possibly a couple of weeks earlier which is apparently a bit more 'swinger' and a bit less 'naturist'. Its definitely worth 2 weeks rather than 1 as there is so much to experience and enjoy there.

If you are debating whether or not to go, we couldn't recommend it highly enough - without doubt the best 'sexy' holiday we've ever had.

Happy to answer specific questions if you have any. Hope someone finds it useful.

An interesting well written and highly informative post . In addition an accurate summary of the cost of spending an enjoyable day.

The only point on which I disagree is your description of Ryanair as being dreaded . I regard their service as being top class , excellent value for money and their punctuality record is very good . Michael O Leary is to be admired for his services to the aviation industry .

Once again thanks for taking time to write the post . Did you visit the sauna clubs ?.

Agree with you Pat on Ryanair. Flown with them hundreds of times and never had a bad flight yet (hope I don't jinx it! )

I think most complaints are from people who can't be bothered to read the terms and conditions!

Last minute - especially in August could be difficult - certainly expensive as it's now "very high season". The campsite charges 50€ per night for a piece of ground - you do have electric hook up & water. Just got to buy a tent. Best to search "swinging holidays in cap d agde" and you get loads of options.it's cheaper off the village - but for example Agde is about 8km from the village - but is cheaper than Cap "vanilla" prices. Look at the reviews and you have a good idea if what your going to get. For example a well known accommodation site has 300 offerings - but only 20 score 9+. Good luck and I would always recommend early booking.

As regulars we think that is a pretty accurate review.

It's around 5 years since we last went into Le Jules but your experience reflects ours. That is why we've never bothered with it since.

We also like Tantra although the little corridor on the ground floor isn't for the feint hearted.

Foam parties? Love 'em.

Pity you didn't try the saunas though.

"Great review

Do you mean August or September . Your first decision will be whether to stay inside or outside the gate ( i.e .naturist village ) . Staying outside is about half the price but means you miss out on the unique atmosphere inside the gate and if you want to go out at night will need a hire car . There are no taxi stands inside the village . Unless you speak , booking a taxi may be difficult .

Prior to booking make sure you know the exact location of your accommodation. Check with the booking agent whether it is inside or outside the naturist village . You want to avoid paying a premium price for accommodation that is outside the gate .

Some of those renting properties are less than honest and will let you find out when you get there . Cap d Agde itself is just a normal French holiday resort of which Village Naturiste is a small part .

I know a few first timers who were mislead by owners as to the location of their properties .

To be inside the gated area , the location should be one of the following .

Port Venus

Port Soleil

Port Ambonne

Heliopolis

Port Nature

Campsite ( Rene Oltra )

I may have missed a few locations , others can add

Great review...you can't beat your first time to Cap D'Agde, no matter what you think it's like, it will always amaze. Suddenly, other holidays never quite hit the mark.

We spent a couple of breezy days in 'The White Pool' the swimming pool attached to Kamasutra Sauna. Nice day hopping from pool into sauna, you can come and go as you please.

They have their own website Kamasutracapdagde.com with some pics and prices.

Not going again now till next year but off to Gran Canaria in September.

See you all there next year. xx

Thank you OP for this interesting and informative post. As Newbies to swinging and potential naturism we are considering a holiday that would provide both aspects and have heard about Cap D'agde, and now we know exactly what we could expect from this resort. This is precisely the kind of information we need to make an informed choice. We will certainly be considering this for a holiday next year, and the point of booking early has been noted.

Thank you for taking the time to write such an informative review. We are currently at Cap, staying on the campsite in our VW Campervan, This is our 7th visit in total and the third time on the campsite. Accommodation on other visits was Jardin D'Eden twice, Hotel O'Zine and Natura Spa. All good quality and recommended, but expensive.

We are not great clubbers and the only club we have visited was Glamour, on our first visit to Cap. However, your comments on Club Obscur has tempted us to return to our fetish club roots!

Thank you for quick answer.

Oh no So disappointed they don't cater for such people as us.

So even single F, FF couples or MFF poliamourous couples wouldn't be let in? Didn't expect Cap to be that conservative and old school ;(

Well, we have our own small pool so may as well organise a private pool party for hot F, M and MF, MMF or FFM (etc.) young people :P

I am not trying to 'package myself' in any way... I come to Cap invited by a sexy couple to accompany them and we are as MMF trio while in Cap.

We will need to see for ourselves how open minded the place is for such trios.

Thanks guys, love the review. We've done GC and are now looking into going Cap

Can you give us a rough idea on budget for your stay inside the village ( hotel, flights, daily budget ) we won't hold you to the exact number, it just gives an idea on what to expect, also the best time to go as well, and the best companies to book with ?

Thanks guys xx

Bergerac, France

There's only one campsite in the naturist village at Cap d'Agde and that is Oltra. Peak season, expect to pay around €50 per night. It's big and can have around 5,000 people in August.

There are many more sites nearby, but that means a walk, cycle or taxi into the village. A couple at Marseillan Plage are close enough to walk along the beach into the village.

Toll roads can be expensive but get you there quicker with less overnight stops. Depends how much of France you want to take in along the way and how long your holiday period is.

I think (nay sure) that you will find that pretty much the whole place doesn't even recognise "trio's" as an entity.

In the eyes of Cap you are a couple plus a single guy and at all clubs and organised parties you will be allowed in, or not, based on that. At the clubs that do allow single guys you will also be charged as such.

You may not like it but I can assure you that in 10 visits over 8 years we've never seen or heard of any concessions for, or even mention of, "trio's"

If I've got any of the above wrong I'm sure one of the other regulars will correct me.

"Last year we went as a FMF and they were happy to let us in.

As far as we know, it's single guys that are not allowed, even as a MFM....

Yes. It's single guys that are not welcome. No matter how they try to package themselves.

I am not trying to 'package myself' in any way... I come to Cap invited by a sexy couple to accompany them and we are as MMF trio while in Cap.

We will need to see for ourselves how open minded the place is for such trios. "

Hi. You will find that Cap is very open minded. However for the purposes of entering clubs you will be treated as a single and have to pay the full rate for a single male. Most clubs clearly display their charges . I am unaware of any club which would give a single male a discounted entry fee as they were accompanying a couple.

Thanks guys for the answers.

I have no problem paying single gent fee, I am more concerned about being treated as a completely separate entity and being refused an entry on that basis, as this would spoil our experience and make a very special lady unhappy.

"Thanks guys, love the review. We've done GC and are now looking into going Cap

Can you give us a rough idea on budget for your stay inside the village ( hotel, flights, daily budget ) we won't hold you to the exact number, it just gives an idea on what to expect, also the best time to go as well, and the best companies to book with ?

Thanks guys xx"

Flights via Ryanair ( to Beziers ) - will vary from £30 each to £250 depending on the the time of year - I booked a flight for £25 on Monday ( £9 flight and £16 for a premium seat ). This was a replacement for a flight already paid for .

Accommodation . This is a lot cheaper outside the naturist village ( but you lose the atmosphere ) . Expect to pay between £500 and £1000 per week for an apartment depending on the season . If booking accommodation double check that it is inside the naturist village and and ask to see recent pictures of it . If using one of booking sites check the reviews ? Are there a sufficient number of reviews to form an overall opinion ? Are the pictures supplied up to date

Other costs

Entry fees ( one off 14 Euros each )

Entrance to clubs / Saunas ( 20-50 Euros per day in total as a couple )

Food / restaurants etc ( 15 - 50 Euros per person - depending on if you just eat dish of the day or want better quality meal.

Airport Transfers 35 Euro each way or 2.50 Euro via bus ( involves two buses and waiting time )

Club entry fees might be avoided if you get invites to private parties / soirees etc .

The best time of year to go is a matter of opinion . Some like it really busy and others prefer quietier times .

At the couples only venues and events which includes foam and pool parties, one half of the sauna club in Port Ambonne, Le Jules, and certain parts of other places you WILL be treated as a separate entity and refused admission (no if's but's or arguments) unhappy lady or not.

Sorry to be blunt but it is better to prepare yourself now rather than get a nasty surprise when you get there.

From 1st July 17 new laws have come into force which could see a reduction in accommodation being offered in France. Loi Alur which is health & safety, Loi Digital which is to cut down tax evasion and a general tightening up on regulation has come into force for all apartment rentals over 20 yes old, and all rentals from 1/1/18. So far less than 5% comply!! Boring stuff but there are some cowboys operating.
