New Emmission Sticker for Paris if you are driving in or through . . .

'Merry Christmas'

Just a heads-up if you don't know already.

'France has introduced 'clean air' windscreen stickers, as a legal requirement in some of its major cities, to identify a vehicle’s emissions levels.

British drivers heading to the France capital are advised by the RAC that driving without a France 'clean air' sticker, called a Crit'Air vignette – which costs as little as £3.20 – makes them culpable for an on-the-spot fine of up to £117.

Drivers of non-French-registered vehicles though, have been offered a degree of leniency – given until March 31 to fully comply with the Crit’Air initiative. An English language section of the government website responsible for stickers launched on February 1.' From the RAC website.

rac.co.uk/drive/news/motoring-news/law-change-for-uk-drivers-in-french-cities/

You can ONLY buy the sticker from the French interior website . . . you also can't buy it when you get there . . .

certificat-air.gouv.fr/en/

Thank you FAB for allowing the url's (if you do that is)

Cat is quite right, this is something visitors from the UK really should be aware of as Paris and Lyon are both concerned and lie on the North-South routes towards Cap.

The Périphérique at Paris isn't part of the zone (do a search for : 'crit air paris zone' to make sure) but if you've ever driven on the Périphérique you'll know just how easy it is to make a mistake and come off it which puts you right in the zone where you'll get fined.

As Cat notes, it isn't expensive to buy the sticker and its valid for the lifetime of the vehicle.

Give about six weeks before travel to make sure you get it too.

Cost us £4.80.

We got ours. We drove to cap and back the other week and forgot to put it in the window. Lol.

IT SHOULD BE PUT IN THE DRIVER SIDE in an English vehicle.

Got the actual sticker today - but the email will cover things if the sticker doesn't arrive in time.

Someone said that their sticker didn't arrive and that they took a printed email but they still got fined when parked in Paris.

As it was an instant fine they had to call the police before driving the vehicle away.

They told the police officer that they had the letter but not the sticker so he said if that happens just leave the it folded in the front window with the code showing and if the code is cool then no fine.

He did let them go without the fine in the end.

Thanks OP. Could have saved my bacon, as I hadn't heard about it and will be driving to Grenoble in August, with a day or two in Paris on the way. Nice one.

Apparently it's still a requirement but there is no fine for not having them! But hefty ones for everything else.

Yep - but if you get stopped and you do not have it then it is an on the spot fine. Your choice - those are the rules.

From Motorcycle website:

"For older vehicles the system is even more strict, with cars registered before 1996, and motorcycles registered before June 2000, banned from the French capital altogether between 8am and 8pm Monday to Friday."
