French fuel strike

Bonjour a touts!

Not sure if the UK news channels have picked up on this but (surprise, surprise) the French refinary workers are all out on strike over the new labour laws.

At the moment there are upto 800 fuel stations without any fuel (depending on what news channel you watch!) and the rest are suffering panic buying.

So.. if you're heading to this side of the ditch over the next week or two, it may be adviseable to check out the latest situation before you decide to drive all the way down south.. you may end up pushing!!

Salut!

Costa Blanca Spain...

Thanks for the heads up.

We are driving down to Spain from Germany this week.

We can usually make it from Luxembourg to Spain on a tank full but I think I will carry a bit of spare as well.

I think you'll find it more than 800, its mainly brittany normany and the south west.

All stations around me in teh bordeaux region are out of diesel, petrol is on its way too. The ones that do have petrol are rationing to 15 litres for cars and 40 litres for lorries..

Toll roads sshould be ok Ive heard.

All supermarkets in Brittany are dry but it should start to improve next week as supplies come back online.

By saying supplies coming back on-line does that mean the dispute is settled ?

If you're on an Autoroute you'll have no problem, fuel stations on the motorway always have fuel available as its illegal to run out of fuel on a French motorway.

I filled up this morning on the A10 near Tours and didn't have to queue. Fuel is however more expensive on the autoroute, I paid 1.27 Euro per litre for Diesel (its about 1.10 in town).

The French government are saying that they won't let the situation get out of hand.. which no doubt means that the riot shields will shortly be issued!!

The union has (apparently) said that they won't be moving anytime soon, here to stay etc etc.. so depends on who gives out first I guess and if any of the other unions decide to join in to stop the fuel actually leaving the refinaries... life just gets sooo interesting!!

apparently there are 8 refineries in france of which 6 are blocaded. There is no end in sight at present but i'm sure the riot police (crs) will storm in soon for a peaceful resolution. lol

Good the quicker they send them in the better.

Travelling through to Agde today the first autoroute service station was shut. Rouen was busy our usual stopping point outside Everaux was shut but the next station limited us to 20l. On the A71 no queues this evening.

Luckily enough on board to make Le Cap in the morning non stop.

London and France

Fuel station closures are almost exclusively in the north ( Brittany, Normandy , up to Calais, and down the Loire; and most of the Prefectures up there are rationing fuel if the stations aren't closed. South of Poitiers, few problems; ( one or two around Bordeaux).

Locally in Charente, no closures , no rationing .

Nor south to the Spanish border from what I hear.

Morwich & Everwhere Anywhere

All good from the Spanish border up to Dax, lots of fuel, tomorrow we take the motorhome up towards Bordeaux. Who knows what we will find heading back home to Normandy.... Let's hope there is some diesel up there, if not we will be extending our holiday to include somewhere in the fuel less departments of the north west of France

I think, from what I have heard the A10 has fuel.

Good luck to everyone in my region of South west France

The French news had coverage of the gendarmies 'pursuading' those on strike to go home.. some went via the hospital apparently!

The French minister says that there is at least 90 days of fuel available - but he's a polictian and his lips were moving - and a lot will depend on getting the fuel out of the refinary and into those in the sticks! There are 8 on strike at the moment.

Our local Carrefore is limiting to 20 Ltrs but they have shut all the pumps except one. I was told that they will run dry probably tomorrow.

best pump up the tyres on the pushbike!

I am between Libourne and Angouleme and have been to Angouleme and back today and every station I have seen or been to is fully open and no rationing!

More punch ups reported this morning twixt the unions and police... and now the unions are trying to get the power workers to join them.. so, use your remaining fuel to go and buy some candles!

There is only one Union on strike: the CGT: the rest of the unions have already accepted the new labour laws; CGT has persuaded part of the energy production wing of CGT to support them.

Although CGT is one of the bigger unions; with branches in most industries, their strike will lose its hold soon.

Costa Blanca Spain...

We are now in Tournus (nr Lyon) Two petrol stations next to the hotel are out of diesel but both have petrol (E10)

Driving down from Luxembourg all the motorway stations were open as normal.

We have enough diesel to get us to Spain but will keep an eye open and report back tomorrow.

France24 has reported that the police have gone in with watercannon and other pursuasive methods to unblock the refineries. The PM has said that the "Unions do not run the country" fightin' talk!!

Also just had a message from some friends saying that they were able to fill up at LeClerc in Plerin (St.Brieuc) so perhaps the worst is over!

Fingers crossed!!

Cap d’Agde, France

Came back to the Cap yesterday from the Limousine.

The autoroute at Liimoge was blocked by lorry drivers 'going slow' the same thing at Toulouse. Got round it by driving on the N roads but it took 8 hours to do the trip compared to the 5 hours to get up there.

No problem on the N roads or the long autoroute stretches between cities also all the gas stations we saw were open for business.

Costa Blanca Spain...

Made it to Spain with no problems.

We did a few kms on the N roads and noticed that most stations were open but quite a few were out of diesel, but petrol seemed ok.

All the motorway stations were operating as normal.

We had no problems either a week ago and all stations seem to have fuel but a WARNING!!

We brought some spare and were in a fools paradise. Had we run out we would not have been able to get the diesel into the tank!!!! You need the spout from the diesel hose to open the valve. Have solved it now with 6 ins of 3/4 pipe and a funnel. That works fine
