why bring booze unless it is super special and the only thing you like to drink,

The beer in supermarkets is quite cheap I think and the wine is cheaper than water at times depending on quality,

Even the spirits are cheaper when you take euro to pound costs in especially if you change cash at banks which rip you off

As the UK is still in the EU for your first two trips, you can bring as much as you want.

. I am not a big drinker but was surprised at how much cheaper food was in the supermarkets. such as outside the gate .

My taxi transfer who is a member of this site stopped at a supermarket on the. way from the airport and I stocked up with food at very competitive prices .

I was surprised just how cheap the wine was though I threw most of mine away . I don't go on holidays. to drink..

Best deal we found for beer was the Lidl in the center of the town of Agde, some German brand in a blue can, 1/2 liters.

A warning on Lidl opposite HyperU. They have enlargened the car park, and put another entrance in. You may feel that as it has a large arrow going in, and no entry signs going out, that you will be safe turning in. Do not however forget the French driving skills, where this is just a challenge, as they decide to drive out of the entrance. The skills have to be seen to be believed!

Why bother Lidl is around the corner; so unless you have a scrumpy that you particularly want, I would say just go to lidl. Beer at 7.9% is under 70C and a bottle of sparling wine Brut or demi sec is about 1€. From memory they do cider too.

If you are staying in the naturalist village there are two Lidl shops about 10 mins drive away in opposite directions.

Coals to Newcastle!

As we're in the Motorhome we can take plenty of booze, proper stuff, like Brown Ale, Guiness, John Smiths etc.

Holland !

.... for wine consumers, the little shop that sells olives and wine and stuff next to the "pain" shop at the camping sells wine by the liter.

You take an empty water bottle ( 1.5 liter ? ) and they will fill it up for you for like three €.

Always buy our plonk on the way down, plenty of Vigneurs between Calais and Cap but we always take our tins of heinz beans and Yorkshire tea, two aspects of proper culture the French just haven't grasped yet!

Actually both are available here in the international iles of the hyper-market, but not at the price you would probably like to pay! But if you want it, you can in the main get it - but at a price.

Hyper - that says it all I know they are wonderful places where you can buy just about anything but still prefer the old ways of the fresh market produce and local butchers & Heinz beans

was referring to Heinz's bean's & Yorkshire Tea - everything else I agree with you - local fresh produce from a producteur.

For the wine lovers who have driven down or rented a car there is a village called Fitou not far from Cap.

We've bought some great red's there, a bit more expensive than the average plonk but worth every cent.

Especially "Domaine Maynardier" which is on the right hand side of the main road as you leave the village (Driving away from Cap) and you can try before you buy
