I see in UK that it is very easy to get test kits posted to you and then you post them back. Results by email or SMS. Does anybody know if this type of service is available in France or is testing only in clinic or by doctors?

Look up 'Mon test IST' or go to any testing laboratory and ask for an MST test, its free and without a prescription. They'll ask for your carte vitale.
