"I'm looking to book somewhere start of march either Austria or France. Only been to France skiing as a child so where's good for a beginner (2nd ski holiday) and an intermediate, good range of slopes, good apres ski and hopefully good snow start of march time " With climate change affecting snowfall it is hard to be able to rely on smaller resorts being fully open with beginner and intermediate slopes fully open so you have to look at the higher resorts and probably the Alpes du Nord. Alpes d'Huez is a high lively resort with beginner slopes on your doorstep although they do get impacted by the sun in the afternoon. Tignes, very high so snow almost guaranteed as is Val Thorens. Both have plenty of nightlife and good skiing. Whatever you choose, go high...

I want to avoid half term time too. 2 years ago we went to Bulgaria, it wasn't half term in northern Ireland but was half term for some of the UK, Romania, Serbia, Bulgaria so it was chaos.

"Agree with the above, Austria is quite a low lying ski area, so you can't g'tee snow late in the season. I taught my daughters to ski in Alpe D'huez for 10 seasons, highly recommend if you can't get to Austria (about 1/2 the cost in resort!)" Thank you. I think France seems to be the way to go for late feb/early March snow

French school holidays end Mar 8 so the week after that will be good, and quieter. We will be in La Plagne at that time, worth considering, they'll have plent of snow then.

Oh that's good to know so 8th to 15th March will be no school holidays?

Parts of Austria is lower than some French resort but higher than others. And it is a long way east. The snow comes in from a different direction, along with that mostly you are skiing on grazed pastureland so need very little snow unlike the rock strewen areas of the French alps Don’t write it off. I was there last week and there was fantastic snow

Lots of high resorts and glacier skiing as well so definitely snow but, in general, French resorts are higher and (especially later in the season) more likely to have snow longer. The reality is that with the weather theses days being so finicky, "you takes your pick and makes your choice". The low lying resorts near where I live have fantastic snow at the moment and I will likely go there before Christmas (40 minutes by car to ski an area with 125km of pisted slopes is be pretty good!) but as a whole I tend to plan longer trips to the higher resorts for guaranteed snow.

"The Sybelles ski area in the maurienne valley, we’ll be there a lot from Boxing Day until 3rd April. " Gosh, there aren'tany who have even heard of the Sybelles Domain. I have a friend who owns a chalet there and we normally spend a few long weekends skiing based out of Le Corbier. I was there last weekend walking and there is already a reasonable amount of snow - a lot more fell during the week and is still falling... In Courchevel at the moment (Le Praz) and it is snowing heavily. Some good skiing today but poor visibility - should be better tomorrow. Looking good for across the Alpes and Christmas holidays at the moment providing this continues.

Don’t tell too many people as it’s still relatively unknown to uk, although crystal have just started going there.

" I like that area of the Domain - some great pistes and a restaurant that I quite like for lunch (on the piste). We usually work our way over to there at least once each time we visit working our way from La Toussuire hence taking in most of the resort. Also nice in the summer and I have ridden over from the Grenoble side (Oz and the Crois de Fer) on my motorcycle a few times. I don't think I have ever heard anyone speaking English so it will be interesting, next time I am there, to see if I notice any difference! Enjoy your time there and have a good season - and you are right ssshhhh!

"Has anyone booked through Heidi or Weski before? If so are they legit? " As we understand Heidi are experts at doing non standard stuff. Long weekend, Al Carte in terms of flights, transfers accommodation. We have a trip in April that meets the remit and we’ll will use them. We’re on the Alps right now and their name has popped up in positive light a few times
