C’mon, be truly adventurous, try Bosnia and Herzegovina - if it was good enough for the ‘84 Winter Olympics it’ll be good enough for youse (yeah, we’re biased, we lived in Sarajevo from 2001 to 2005 when some of the slopes hadn’t yet been cleared of mines).

And if Bjelašnica can be as demanding as you want it to be, Jahorina is good even for kids. I could add that Bjelašnica was used for the men’s Olympics and Jahorina for the women’s, but that might be taken as sexist!

Just back from Les Sybelles - some good skiing and snow cover but, higher than normal temperatures and some overnight rain (yes rain) at altitude followed by a freeze meant the slopes were extremely icy yesterday and today.

Some of the worst sheet ice I have ever skied (and I have skied for 50+ years) and extremely dangerous.

Some of the slopes should have been closed as people were not able to stop and I would be surprised if there were not quite a few accidents.

At the nearby Grand-Bornand resort near Annecy, a little boy was skiing on a blue slope when he lost control of his skis. Gaining speed, he then joined a black slope which had been closed by the station. The little boy raced down the very icy track for at least a hundred meters before stopping on a red run below.

The poor boy lost his life.

The resort should have closed the pistes until conditions improved.

So, take care out there fellow fabbers and skiers?

All the resorts need new snow.

Conditions are, at best, hard packed snow on a firm base with artificial snow lower down.

Western alps got hit pretty bad last week with high temps and rain, temps dropping after this weekend but aim high and snow is pretty good, is suspect you will be in avorias for the best snow

Have fun and put a few turns in for me ( MCL strain frantically being treated so I can get another couple of weeks in)

The prices have certainly gone up this year...

I paid 10€ in Courchevel in December,

8€ in Le Corbier last month, 10€ in a hotel at La Rosière but 11.50€ on the slopes, 10€ in Val d'Isère and the same in both La Plagne and Les Arcs.

So, most places seem to be about the 10€ mark but last year I am pretty sure that 8€ was the rough average!

I did notice that the restaurants in La Thuile (Italy - where I skied to when at La Rosière) were quite a lot cheaper than in France!

Well....the week up to today has been great, with pretty good piste conditions given the lack of snow...

But last night, there was rain in Morzine, with snow higher up...that has resulted in a considerable worsening of lower slopes, although the higher pistes will have benefited from the fresh snow, but not until the pistes have been bashed (they weren't last night) and the visibility improves....today was a cold, wet, tough day.

Loads of snow falling in the Alpes at the moment.

Was in Alpes d'Huez yesterday and had to use snow chains for the last couple of miles.

More snow falling this week with a big dump forecast for Sunday.

Some of the best skiing I have had this season so far - powder everywhere and almost all the runs open.

Going up again on Saturday and staying for a week with friends.

Just got back from a great week. Been in resort last five seasons (minus lock down year) and it’s fab…the World Cup run is in hintergleem, with a great apres bar at the base. If your staying in Saalbach, I’d ski across towards holcalm, then take the Zwölferkogel north to the top; the sun is on that side in the morning. That way you can ski down and enjoy stop along the main run.

France - La Plagne, Val D’isere, Tignes.

Portes du Soleil Is easily accessible from Geneva, but check snow reports of heading that early in the season

I often stay in Vaujany which is just beside Oz (about 90 minutes from where I live).

Cable car directly to Alpes d'Huez which has some of the best snow in the Alpes

Like Oz, you can ski back down to the village

I used to stay in Oz when my daughters were young, we spent many great weeks there. You miss out all the crowds for the DMC in Alpe d'huez as the Oz lift meets in the same ski area at the Mid station. Very easy to ski into and out of, highly recommend
