First time in a while, going to Dieppe, then Poitiers 2 nights over to Lyon. Any tips/advice on headlight deflectors, high Viz etc etc

If you are going into Lyon you will need a Crit Air sticker

Lights should be fine providing your car is modern...

High Viz jackets for every person travelling which are accessible, warning triangle...

Crit air (as has been mentioned) for Lyon and other cities of applicable...

If you are going into Lyon

you will need a Crit Air sticker"

Do you have a source for this? UK headlamps shine to the left, EU ones shine to the right. Headlamp adapters are needed on MOST cars, apart from those that have the facility to change the angle of the beam either electronically or mechanically within the headlamp. My Jaguar X-Type for example used to have a lever on the back of the headlamps to flatten bthe beam.

My (more modern) Peugeot 607 and BWM 520 still need them. Otherwise the headlamps will shine to the left and dazzle oncoming drivers. A large number of UK vehicles I've seen here don't seem to bother, nor do many EU-registered ones in the UK (how often have you been dazzled by a left hand drive Eastern European truck coming the other way...?), but that doesn't mean they're not needed.

No I don't have a source so could be incorrect.

I actually had not thought this properly - I am thinking more of modern motorcycles which shine down rather than left or right.

Deflectors will therefore be required as per your post.

The RAC says:

"Modern car headlights are set up to point towards the nearside – or kerbside – of the vehicle. A right-hand drive car on the right-hand side of the carriage way means this could blind oncoming traffic at night.

"Either adjust the angle of your headlights, or fit headlight beam adjusters to compensate and help improve safety by increasing visibility on the nearside. It is mandatory that UK cars driving in France now have headlamp beam converters to avoid dazzling other road users.

"You will also need reflective jackets, a warning triangle, spare bulbs – as well as some suggested items such as a breathalyser, snow chains and, for motorcyclists, safety helmets for drivers and passengers.

"Also, as of September 28th 2021, the GB sticker that would be attached to the rear of the vehicle has now been replaced with the UK sticker. Drivers do not need a UK sticker if their number plate includes the UK identifier on its own or with the Union Jack flag."

Note that last point too, 'GB' number plates are no longer allowed, it has to be "UK" not "GB".
