Hints and tips...?

Don't jump on the ferry, take the train down south and enjoy the sunny bit...!

We're sure you'll get plenty of different advice from our friends 'oop north' but the wine is the best reason for coming down here. And the mountains. And the beaches. And the weather. And Cap.

OK, we'll stop there..!

Too late. However, when the Lycra goes on I instantly morph into a sex god. No photos I’m afraid as Fab won’t let me post them as they feel it would be unfair to other men on here.

Well the roads in France are fantastic for cycling - they maintain them properly. Cycling is very popular in France and my area takes part in many of the cycling competitions, which they take very seriously. Roads will soon be full of groups of Mamils at weekends hogging the road.

I personally find sex a much more satisfy workout but can appreciate that men on Fab often have to do sport instead

Make sure you give the Mamils plenty of room as you pass and no ogling their bottoms or bulges - eyes on the road. I do envy you living in France, it was always my dream to retire there. Bit further south though.

As a mamil myself, just be careful on the roads.. The french do respect cyclists more but you do get the errant driver who is not familiar with an area.. I had a lot of breakages in 2020 thanks to a foreign lorry driver that didn't know which side of the road to drive on..

I don’t like it very hot so the warm summers here are just right for me. Lovely area though and beautiful green countryside.

Global warming has made some southern areas too warm for comfort and quite a lot of people who live in the south now come further north for their summer holidays.

My plan is to follow rivers, canals, the coast. Take the hills out

Near Bergerac

If you’re like us and enjoy the slightly bumpy bits much more than tarmac, the Canal du Midi has a lot to offer.

The tow path is free to use and it’s really easy to make diversions when you’ve had your fill of waving to the boaters every few minutes. The villages and towns along the way can be very French and not always tourist traps.

And you have plenty of airports to choose from and bike hires if you want to stay linear and not worry about bringing your own bike.

There’s a reason why cycling is so popular here, there’s so much diversity with something to suit all tastes.

And yes, we have electric mountain bikes…!!

A couple of years ago we did Atlantic to the Med via Canal du Midi and Garonne

Starting in Vernon Sur Mer and finishing in Cap

Great fun with most of it off road.

Is the one week set in stone? Have you considered overnight ferry from Portsmouth to Bilbao / Santander then following the west coast up through the Vendee, then ferry back from St Malo / Le Harve / Cherbourg or Caen. think it’s Eurovelo 1.

Plenty of campsites and often get a reduced rate if cycling. Never booked anything just stopped when tired or had enough for the day. I did part of it the opposite way round as part of a 3 month tour in 2019.

We’re cycling through France this June on our way to Lake Como
