"Can you get a individual 6 month visa each year?"

Better to look on the U.K. French embassy website for eligibility rather than Fab

Why don’t the fucking politicians and civil servants sort this mess out. There is nothing to stop any European country issuing free 12 month visas on arrival.

France likes to punish us for leaving and not giving them all that money. But - other 3 rd countries accept the Schengen rules so the price of leaving the EU is that we won’t be treated differently.

France is also Schengen, we are disadvantaged as only able to spend 90 days out of 180 in Schengen area.

Was that not down to Brexit rather than the French?

Indeed it was Brexit but there is nothing to stop individual countries in Schengen offering free one year visas.

The four “pillars” of the EU are the free movement of goods, services, capital and labour.

None of them come without conditions (or a price-tag), but when we walked away from one we walked away from them all…

"received back"

Did you apply for a visa or carte de séjour? If the former, on what grounds did you request a long-stay visa?

Presumably a maximum of one year was granted?

Although I've a carte de séjour and permanent right to reside and work in France, I'm still restricted to 90 days in any other EU country, even Germany from where my wife comes!

We only applied for 6 months as we only really go for the summer. Also if you have the yearly visa then you have to buy an insurance that covers you for the entire period, which makes the holiday rather expensive.

Does anyone know how this effects visiting other EU countries? If you've just spent, say, four months in France on a six month visa, can you then go to Spain for a week?

Or do they say no, you're over 90 days in the last 180 already?

From what I have read - You can visit other places in Schengen for your 90 days but there must be a clear 24 hrs when you return to your home country before you visit for your 90 days. If you are resident in U.K. you need to return there for 24 hrs and then go to Spain. You would need to read your terms of visa you have been given to see if you can break your 6 months and retain the 2 months or if the 6 month period has to be taken in one amount and if broken you lose the 2 unused months.

There is a very good tool on a website called Schengen Visa , you enter dates you were in countries and it calculates your remaining entitlements
