If you are thinking of importing a car from the Uk to France from 1st jan

1800 kg limit (kerb weight)

10 euro per kilo if you are over ,

Or 20 euro per bag of sugar in weight in perspective.

A typical med 4x4 / sturdy car or van will now cost in excess of 3k weight tax when registering it .

why impiet one? If you want to live in france why not support france.buy a car there and they will have the wheel on the correct side. So what ?

Hindsight is 20/20 vision, I can be trusted to get it wrong! Our RHD littl'un IS re-registered in France, the LHD Land Rover which we mostly use is still UK registered and will sooner or later have to be sold.

As for replacement, if Dacia is good enough for the French Gendarmerie...

Yes that's in addition ,

it's a weight tax.

And to answer the above a cheap 4x4 in the uk is 3k ,same car in French same mileage except lhd is 11k. Cannot justify 8k difference.and personally I prefer rhd with the amount of verges and ditches on dept 53s roads

It's quite simple really. The French government want people to buy cars in France. Anyone living here knows how expensive cars are compared with some other countries. Second hand prices are astronomical compared to say the UK. Simple economics keeping the money in France

Because the French think of a number and treble it when it comes to second hand vehicles, vans especially. They're beat up pieces of sh#t with a stratospheric number painted on the cracked windshield.

Sod buying a French van, I'd rather walk.

We’re driving a UK-registered Defender, sooner rather than later we’re gonna have to get rid of it - we’ve changed the GB sticker to UK, another BREXIT/racist nonsense - but certainly won’t pay any “weight tax”. The Morgan we registered in France last year cost nothing other than changing the headlights and swapping over the reverse and fog lamps and passing a French contrôle technique. Only delay was getting the quittance fiscale: typically French in that I was directed from one Prefecture or tax office to the other with the usual gallic shrug of shoulders, then in desperation ‘phoned the local office where the girl said “Come along now and I’ll do it while you wait, there’s no charge”.

Just like the UK though, due to “chip” shortages there are long delivery times for any vehicle with a bit of electrickery, when we’re obliged to buy something here it’ll be a new Dacia. If they’re good enough for the Gendarmerie...
