No lockdown here in France.

FRANCE TIGHTENS COVID-19 RESTRICTIONS

28TH DECEMBER 2021

New rules are being introduced in response to the Omicron variant as the number of cases in France continues to rise. But New Year’s Eve festivities can still go ahead. NEW France recorded 100,000 new infections on Christmas Day, the highest since the pandemic began.

The government has responded by tightening restrictions once again.

They come into force on 3rd January.

In a further blow to businesses in French ski resorts, cafés and bars will be table-service only and nightclubs will remain closed.

Indoor events will be limited to 2,000 people and outdoor public gatherings will be restricted to 5,000 people.

Concerts with standing audiences will be banned.

Several local authorities had already cancelled big New Year concerts and firework displays.

According to the English language news website, The Local, “all ceremonies de vouex (New Year ceremonies held by local officials and some companies) will be cancelled”.

There is, however, to be no curfew or ban on New Year’s Eve parties.

The government is advising people to take tests ahead of meeting up, keep gatherings small, ventilate rooms and wear masks where possible.

Blois, France

Well, no lockdown but we just had 208000 new cases in just one day (after 179000 yesterday). A much smaller percentage of people are being hospitalised this time but even a small percentage of a very big number means huge numbers being admitted to hospital.

Nightclubs are to remain closed until at least the 24th of January and you can only drink in a bar if you're sitting down at a table. Public parties to celebrate the new year have been cancelled but private parties are allowed.
