We're planning a car tour around France this year, and wondered if anyone could suggest some interesting places to stay?

Not including Agde!

Costa Blanca Spain...

The only swinger hotels we know of are in Cap.

We don't know of any dedicated swinger B&B's.

There are a couple of libertin campsites you could look at.

Ran du Chambrier and Le Diamant Noir. A quick google will find them for you.

I don't think there is much else in France other than at Cap.

Blois, France

Hi, if you type 'maison d'hotes libertine' into your favourite search engine you should find what you're looking for. If not then here are a few to look at :

Les chambres d’hôtes Pégase – Var

Le Domaine des Vieux Chênes – Drôme provençale

La Bergerie des Sens – Piémont Cévenol

la Tour des pins – Var

La Villa libertine – Mougin près de Cannes

La Longère de Mané Tanguy – Morbihan

La Maison d’Hôte Libertine – Franche Comté

Le Domaine de la Reine Blanche

Le Domaine des 7 sens – Ile-de-France

La Diligence – Bourgogne

La Demeure Libertine – between Nantes et Rennes

Please note, we haven't been to any of these places (yet).

Cap d’Agde, France

Considering UK/France population/GDP is the same size, France has more than 3X the Swinger cubs of the UK, plus campsites, resorts etc. etc.

So you shouldn’t have too much of a problem in this sex mad country !

When I read your comment "sex mad country" a few days ago,it registered as interesting but I passed on to reading something else. But I was intrigued and have been mulling it over. I wonder if you are right, or whether it is the proscriptive Anglo Saxon untight cultures that are sex mad, especially the US. Whereas the French clearly accept it as life affirming normality which should be in the open. Perhaps a debate you don't wish to have?

OK it was a flippant, 'off the cuff' comment but I was not making a stereotypical judgement on the French

However after living in the UK most of my life and in France for the last 6 years I find that people here have a refreshingly more open attitude to sex, not something to be hidden away, just part of life.

Perhaps I should have said a country full of hedonists......, only, "sex mad" country reads so much better!

Blois, France

I moved to France in my early thirties and have been here for 22 years, its interesting what you say about the French having a more open attitude to sex.

In my first year in France I tried relentlessly to pull (in normal bars, discos etc.) using my usual UK learnt techniques and it just doesn't work. In the end I gave up and stopped trying and said to myself you have to marry a French woman before she'll go to bed !

Something strange happened when I stopped trying to pull, within two weeks I had a partner and my goodness she knew how to please !

Relationships in France are very private, thy don't like showy, direct people, pulling is a slow and delberate challenge that takes time. The slightest hint of the relationship becoming public is the end of it. Privacy is everything.

And then there's the 2% of France that are libertin (swingers). Meeting most swingers requires at least a minimum of seduction, its different at Cap where everyone has their week or two in the sun and wants to make the most of it, but the rest of the year its requires a long seduction on the French equivalent of Fab and dressing up to the nines for the meet. The meeting often means eating a meal together and sharing stories, experiences etc before going to bed.

For non-swingers wanting a one night stand, stay in England, you'll have much more luck. If you speak French and are prepared to make the effort, then the experience will be sensual, gentle, rewarding and you may well end up being friends for life.

Bergerac, France

Excellent post by Touraine.

We’ve no experience of trying to pull, as in trying finding a life partner, as we were married long before we arrived in France…!

But the bit about privacy is true.

What we have also often found to be true is the stereotype of one (or both) partners in a marriage having a regular ‘bit on the side’ for want of a better phrase…!

On the whole, the French are much more open about libertines and exchangists ( there is a difference ) to the extent that many towns and even villages have a ‘club’.

It may not always be advertised as a swinging venue but is somewhere that married folk can go with their secret partner and expect discretion.

We just love the French people…!!!

Unless your a linguist it's useful where ever you live to have a network of English speakers close at hand.

Some friends coverted a Breton ruin into a stunningly beautiful house over many years but would have to drive up to an hour to meet English friends for a meal.

Eventually they moved to our area, a less attractive home in the village but with a great range of anglophones to choose from, and despite being conversant French speakers, they feel much more at home and happier here.

Lots to think about for your place in the sun!

This is excellent, spot on!

Not so long ago, I stayed at an Airbnb in N France and got chatting to the hosts ( I speak French). They had very different accents and had married. I asked how they’d met and apparently they met online. My next spontaneous question was which site! I have every intention of returning as there was a little ‘je ne sais quoi’ in the air and would look forward to picking up the conversation. If nothing else, the frisson keeps me young!

Will do once it’s complete, only half a hour from the airport too, with Ryanair flying there, so accessible for weekend fun x
