After the overwhelming success of the Skiing 2021 thread, keeping tabs on no skiing trips whatsoever, here is the 2022 version.

We are booked be in La Plagne for the first 2 weeks of January.

I’d like to go to Le Grand Bornand which is a small but lovely resort. Also Vogel in Slovenia which is great for a weekend.

Saalbach-Hinterglemm is my favourite ski area, been several times now and it never disappoints on or off the slopes. As it’s popularity grows so do the prices, may have to look elsewhere this season

UK visitors effectively banned from travelling to France from Saturday unless you have a compelling reason to travel….sadly a ski holiday or owning a property there does not count. Fucked off big time as due to go to our ski apartment Boxing Day.

Here in France we have had stronger restrictions ongoing whereas in the UK people have been doing what they want. No masks in public places and arguing about not wanting the sanitary pass, which we have here and have to show before access to bars and restaurants. It's no big deal to have one and much of the French population just accept it as normal now.

Can fully understand why the French government have put a halt to British travellers entering the country as UK numbers are spiralling out of control. Whilst we have some problems with numbers here in France it is nothing like the UK.

Macron put a halt to Brits entering the country as a tit-for-tat response to our own rules and you shouldn’t believe everything you read in the papers as the U.K. media is alarmist and just jumping on the Witty bandwagon..we were in Aix for the summer and nearly half of the restaurants didn’t bother checking with the NHS passes, they just wanted customers (who can blame them?)..as for the French falling in line well we saw plenty of anti restriction demonstrations so just giving a balanced (and personal viewpoint from a French passport holder)

i guess those living in France may not be aware that the percentage of positive tests for Omicron in France is at a higher percentage than it is in the uk - why do you think the daily figures in France aren't particulalry low...omicron is already there in large numbers and stopping Brits from travelling is nothing but playing politics

If anyone is heading to Andorra, covid pass gets checked on entering bars/restaurants. I’ve only had it checked once out skiing and that was a random check at a lift in the middle of the day.

Nothing has officially been announced yet and the reposts of such have all come from local papers suggesting it could happen rather than something being said.

Rules as of yesterday are:

If you're double jabbed plus booster or double jabbed plus neg PCR then you're fine.

Unvaccinated (without medical exemption) you can only enter Austria if you have residency and you have to isolate for 10 days.

Your testing situations is worse, your getting more cases of few tests we testing more people so obviously getting higher numbers but as a percentage of test positive france is worse ??

The reporting on the local press was poor to say the least, thankfully it didn’t happen. Now we just need france to open up a bit and Germany to let us transit

its my understanding from the below taken from the germa federal wesbite you can transit through Germany...

Citizens of countries outside of the EU may enter Germany to travel to another EU member state or another Schengen state as their country of final destination if the following conditions are met:

the traveller remains in Germany (as country of transit) only as long as absolutely necessary to travel directly to the country of destination or another transit country;

the traveller is permitted to enter the country of destination or another transit country (in accordance with Annex I or II of the Council Recommendation of 30 June 2020 or with individual confirmation of permission to enter issued by the country of destination).

Under these conditions, citizens of countries outside of the EU may also enter Germany by air and travel overland to their country of destination.

The traveller must provide evidence that the conditions listed above have been met. Airline or other travel tickets, etc. may be presented to meet condition (1). A printout of the current national regulations in place in the country of destination implementing Annex I of the Council Recommendation may be presented to meet condition (2). It must be clear from the text that residents of certain countries are not required to provide proof of the reason for travel to the country of destination. If this is not possible, then evidence must be provided of the urgent need for entry in accordance with Annex II of the Council Recommendation. Germany’s border control officials will only check for compliance with the requirements for entering Germany. Alternatively, the traveller may present a document issued by the responsible authorities of the country of destination certifying that entry restrictions have been waived or that approval of entry has been granted.

FRANCE TIGHTENS COVID-19 RESTRICTIONS

28TH DECEMBER 2021

New rules are being introduced in response to the Omicron variant as the number of cases in France continues to rise. But New Year’s Eve festivities can still go ahead. NEW France recorded 100,000 new infections on Christmas Day, the highest since the pandemic began.

The government has responded by tightening restrictions once again.

They come into force on 3rd January.

In a further blow to businesses in French ski resorts, cafés and bars will be table-service only and nightclubs will remain closed.

Indoor events will be limited to 2,000 people and outdoor public gatherings will be restricted to 5,000 people.

Concerts with standing audiences will be banned.

Several local authorities had already cancelled big New Year concerts and firework displays.

According to the English language news website, The Local, “all ceremonies de vouex (New Year ceremonies held by local officials and some companies) will be cancelled”.

There is, however, to be no curfew or ban on New Year’s Eve parties.

The government is advising people to take tests ahead of meeting up, keep gatherings small, ventilate rooms and wear masks where possible.

Hi All

I’ve made it to Saalbach….driving…. No issues at the Dutch, German or Austrian borders

The PCR test was scrutinised but had it done the day before travel ….. so was within the 48 hour rule for Austria

Transit through Holland no problem except 1.5 hours to get off the ferry as they checked the docs for each car ….. I was 20 in the queue…. Needed the patience of Jobe …. lol

If anyone is in Saalbach …. Look me up

Rest tomorrow ….. then hit the slopes

An absolute doddle to return through Spain as long as you’ve been jabbed at least twice.
