"We had to cancel last year for obvious reasons. AGN have approx. 600 euros (deposit from last year). Now trying to book for this year - the silence is deafening. What are other's experience? " We booked with AD James (as usual) last year and we got all our money back but probably because we cancelled before the 90 day limit. This year they have just confirmed our booking this week but will not ask for the deposit for a while and change their terms to a full refund up 60 days before and if we cancel for any reason due to Covid we get a refund or 2021 voucher!

" We are the same as you. AGN deposit outstanding, know quite a few in the same position. Just have to hope they don’t go bust !! They have published online their 2021 brochure .... But think everyone’s waiting to see how the next few weeks and months pan out .... here’s hoping !!!!

Been booking through AD James over 10 years now and even though the website isn’t great Clémence has always been brilliant in accommodating anything we’ve needed, last year offered full refund cancellation right up to the day before arrival. Confirmed our apartment for August now

"Just as a matter of interest, why did people cancel last year? We took our motorhome to France last August and it was lovely. We also have ferries booked for this summer as usual." Can’t believe I read this !

"Why, did you expect them to die from going to France ?" We did a risk assessment and concluded that the ferry was the riskiest part. We were very careful on the ferry, sat outside, didn't remove masks, didn't touch handrails etc. After that, we were pretty much self isolating in the van. We used aires and France Passion to sleep, avoiding tourist areas and campsites. On the day 500,000 people were playing sardines on Bournemouth beach we saw less than half a dozen people in total as we walked in the Creuse region. We took a minimal risk as our travel insurance specifically excluded all covid claims including medical. So, unless your means of getting there was cancelled, we can't see any reason not to go.

Lots of ppl went and caught the virus last summer. I didn’t want to take that risk. It’s impossible to keep social distance in Cap.

"Usually go every year during last week of July, did not go last year. Am hoping to be vaccinated in time to go this summer but am worried that the main attractions (pool parties, foam etc) will not happen... Is it worth going to “Cap dAgde Light”?" That's one of the worries we have about booking for this year. The French may still be imposing restrictions and the bars have reduced hours etc. So will be a last minute decision for us.

Yes, we are thinking the same. I think that if we go at all it will be only for a week this year.

" I am keeping my fingers crossed that I would have been vaccinated by then. " Even if all of the UK is vaccinated, if there are still CV_19 problems in France then Cap might not be back to normal. The big question is, Would you go to Cap if there was no foam / pool parties, you had to wear a mask while out, even at the beach and the pubs closed at 11pm?

Think it's only a question of what you want from the Cap village. We love the beach, meeting friends, restaurants, aperos and the dancing is great for a night out. We rarely visit the clubs and then only with a bunch of friends, the pool parties are dreadful, full of posers, the foam parties are to be avoided (they put all sorts of abasive crap in the foam) and the new venue is a rip-off to boot. Incidently, we walk on the Cap beach at least once a week and no one, even now, wears a mask on it.

I can see your point as you live pretty close to Cap, but for us to book Chunnel tickets, book the campsite, pay the tolls and diesel costs to have two weeks in Cap where it is a shadow of normality is a bit different.

"We live 10 minutes away. We popped down yesterday and walked the beach Definitely beach looks better this year than last January when it resembled a building site. There was some activity with lorry’s and building work as is the normal this time of year. We did even see one brave naked guy seeing it was only 15c ??. We arrived back from U.K. two weeks ago. Have to say France is far more strict on Covid19 than U.K. we would be very surprised to see the cap up to full speed this summer. Seems a lot of French do not want to be vaccinated so this could slow the recovery up Fingers crossed everything returns to normal ASAP One other worry we heard a whisper Beziers airport and Carcassonne are obviously struggling to survive like a lot of airports. " I wonder how the lack of trade last year has affected shop and pub owners in the village? I hope none of them have been put out of business by it.

"Usually I go every year during last week of July, did not go last year. Am hoping to be vaccinated in time to go this summer but am worried that the main attractions (pool parties, foam etc) will not happen... Is it worth going to “Cap dAgde Light”?" I went last year in both July and August . It was a balancing act between meeting a few people and avoiding all crowded areas . Some nights in July and prior to various people being confirmed as being Covid 19 positive , the area outside Melrose was packed to capacity and people were ignoring social distancing .I avoided that area completely . Against my better judgement I went to the Sauna once . Not everyone wore a mask once inside and some people were even breathing in your face in an attempt to watch the action . While the virus is still active , that is one place I would not use again . However it would be a bit pointless going to Cap if there was no opportunity to have fun and pleasure . I decided that a few selcted 121 meets were of minimal ( not nil ) risk and also organised a few small private parties . The Bodega bar was good at ensuring that social distancing was observed . Normally by this time of year I would have booked flights for about eight differnt trips . As of now I have not booked a single trip as there are far too many unknowns . The vacinne roll out gives us all hope , but there are still a considerable number of unknowns such as when the requirement to self isolate will be lifted . Being realistic , lockdown cannot continue for much more than a few months as it is destroying both the economy and the tourist industry . We may have no choice but to accept that we have to live with the virus and adjust the risks that we take accordingly . People cannot stay at home for ever . Travel to Cap may be a problem this year . When I last looked at flights to Belfast I was surprised at how few were available . The long term car park at Stansted is currently closed and when I recently dropped off a friend at the airport , it was like a ghost town ( on what have been one of the busiest days of the year ) . I have not bothered checking flight schedules as it seems a bit pointless at the moment. It is reported that Eurostar are in financial difficulty and very few trains are running . Once there is a clearer picture of the lifting of travel restricions I will making a number of trips in the summer.

"I know people are going to have a go at me for this but: Why is it so important to be worrying about going on holiday. I cannot understand the apparent desperate need to start booking anything either here in France or anywhere else in the world. There are more important things in life, like life itself. There are seriously worrying numbers with covid here and they are going to continue rising because people will not abide by the rules. We do not want anyone from outside France bringing further cases in. It was allowing people in last summer which caused numbers to increase rapidly in France. The French government needs to keep borders closed, whether it be for 6 months or a year. Whatever it takes. People need to get real and stop being so selfish and self centered. If you don't agree with my posting that's your choice but don't put people's lives at risk. I will await the abusive replies " . I guess people need something to look forward to and being optimistic , are assuming that the virus will be under control by the summer or that lifestyles can be adopted to minimise the risk of catching the virus . No one disputes the importance of life itself, but there has to be a balance between destoying the tourist industry or economy and preserving life . Each lockdown was only supposed to be temporary , but inevitably have lasted a lot longer than most people expected I fail to see how planning or looking forward to a holiday is either selfish or self centred ( in any event people would only be travelling in accordance with government guidelines which no individual can over ride ) . I would think that the people who run bars , clubs and restaurants in Cap are glad that people are planning future trips . There is only so long that you can put your life on hold .

"We certainly do. Our agent Sylviane Byll, AGN, Rene Oltra et al have worked damn hard to keep their businesses going and clients on board. Last year cost us a pretty penny in lost business so goodness knows what it cost them. " . I would think that preserving the French tourst industry is important for the French government as they collect tax from it .These are hardly revenues that they can afford to lose . Cap d Agde provides a lot of local employment to bar staff , cleaners , handover agents , waiters and waitresses plus local tradesmen . Unless things pick up very quickly 2021 has the potential to be a very poor year in Cap . I am just about to submit a French tax return for 2020 online . Luckily I managed to achieve a higher turnover in 2020 than 2019 ( probably because I was able to re act quickly to events and fill cancellations via one of the booking platforms ) . The 2021 season is in complete limbo . In theory I have a fully booked apartment from regular clients but have only received one deposit ( which is a holdover from a 2020 cancellation ) . On a normal year for 2021 all deposits would be banked the previous October . With all the uncertainty you can hardly insist on deposits being paid . Accommodation agents in Cap must be facing a rather grim time unless there is greater clarify regarding the easing of travel restrictions .

"worst service to book apartment in cap it is pengfrance. our experiens Very bad service " When I used Peng to rent apartments I found the service to be excellent. If I arrived outside office opening hours they always left the keys at the entrance gate . The only reason I stopped renting from them was that they would only accept bookings from a Saturday to Sunday. When my bag was stolen on the beach ( which contained my keys) , I was expecting a locksmith charge of circa 200 Euros to change the barrel. They simply used a spare barrel which they had in the office and made no charge to me .

Did you stay in the accommodation or was it a cancelled booking ? . Peng have an account on another social media site to which they post regularly.

"We ended up having to make a credit card recharge as our "hosts" would not answer a phone or email." Not exactly a very good advertisement for the businesss concerned. It is lucky that you paid by credit card . I am guessing but would think that the large agencies may have cash flow problems with hardly any bookings coming in.

"worst service to book apartment in cap it is pengfrance. our experiens Very bad service " I was going to echo this. I promptly cancelled with them as someone told me they don’t hold normal hotel 24 reception style hours. In fact I believe they are closed altogether on Sundays. This was a problem for me as I wasn’t sure about my arrival time. So I promptly cancelled and booked with an Airbnb. God help those who arrive on a Sunday. Amongst other things airbnb is amazing. The host was more than willing to provide me a direct line, was able to take my AMEX card as payment and I was satisfied pre-payment was secured.

They also arranged for the keys to be picked-up at the gate when we arrived late. (we were calling and giving them travel updates and ETA) And they had an attractive agent - tall, sexy, slim blonde.
