Come on all Fab members lucky enough to live in France - say hi and tell us what you are up to?

Preparing for winter?

Brexit issues?

Fucking Covid issues?

Fucking issues?

Anything really, just posting to knock the dopey

‘Message’ post of the top.

I’m still hoping to relocate out there as and when house is sold. Will I still be welcome post Brexit?

Lot et Garonne or Tarn? Limousin perhaps, although not far enough south?

Hugs and kisses to you all from a damp depressed England.

Prepping for winter, woodshed is crammed, cutting back, finished digging out the fosse and culverts. Over wintering plants, harvesting the squashes, making preserves, drying mushrooms, listening to my homemade wine fermenting (beautiful grapes this year!) . In between those tasks renovating furniture, cutting a bit of grass and the last few hours of getting the beast ready for its Control Technique, which has thoroughly kept me amused.

Ohh and Samhain is approaching so no doubt a drink or two.

Côte d'Azur & Great Yarmouth

We’ve just brought our boat down from the UK to the Canal du Midi, now permanently berthed in Capestang. We’ll spend the next couple of sunny days on the boat, then it’s back to our gaff on the coast to hunker down for Winter.

Lots of Christmas markets, wine, raclettes and fondues, the only thing lacking will be some like-minded people to share with!

Not much prep for me, swapping the summer duvet for my winter one. Swapping the fan for a paraffin heater. I like winter in France. I don't get that wet chill to my bones like the in UK.

"Freezing my bollocks off in the Charente don’t get my logburner until next week

Does anybody know where to get artificial logs over here?"

Logs get sold in Stères which is usually 1 cubic metre.

We will get 3 Stères for the winter at about 65 euros per stère.(plus 10% tax)

If, like us, you need smaller logs (the standard length is 1 metre) then you will get less volume,

Our logs are 33cm length and we get 0.7m/3

For supplies look for bois-de-chuffage websites.

For smaller amounts you could try looking in Brico type stores, we bought a few small bags in our local BricoCash to keep us going until our larger delivery but this way is not cost efficient.

I assumed that logs would be plentiful and cheap in France. Mind you, they don’t grow on trees!

Wow you're good using just 3 stere. I use normally 6 or more and have a pompe a chaleur and poele petrole in my workshop and still not every room gets heated.

I've either got poor insulation ( and dont any fucker try calling me and tell me I can get it for a euro) or inefficient heating ..lol

You can always look for a parcel of woodland or if your going to live here buy a place with a bit of woodland attached or access to communal woodland if you have scavengers rights. Ask local foresters if you can scavenge the brash left over from forestry operations, they might want a token gesture but it's worth asking. I have 3 hectares of woodland and hedgerows so always have firewood.

It’s the composite ones made from compressed wood they’re more economically friendly and are less mess

Right I know what you mean. See them everywhere in this area. I prefer seasoned oak and I've just paid 200€ for 4 stere.
