most fundamental aspects

Is it possible to have a specific box for reporting threads that are fake news? I’m not suggesting mods or admin fact check everything, rather that a user can include a link to a trusted source when they report.

I think some people are scared to report threads as none of the options (is it spam, illegal, abusive as choices at the moment?) would seem to fit.

Problem is UK doesn’t have fake news laws yet, media distributes much of the fake news and our PM was personally responsible for a huge amount of fake news - the infamous Euromyths

Problem with that is that everyone will be reporting everyone who disagrees with them. Best to rebut or ignore.

That is exactly correct. The childish attitude that has been so pervasive through British society and media outlets in the past few years.

"Put the trusted link into the thread and let people decide"

Would it be possible to introduce a forum rule that anyone starting a thread relating to news have to include a source for that story or the thread gets locked?

And maybe in keeping with that comments dismissing the source rather than discussing the story result in a time out?

Or would that be too much to moderate?

In the current climate, I'm obviously thinking primarily the virus section.

Moderation isn't the issue, shutting down peoples views because another person doesn't like them is though and something that no forum should do. We can't decide what people think, even if you think /know your source is right

If you think someone is wrong in what they are saying, call them out on it
