So a have a whole list of things that would make the site better. Apologies if these are covered already but the site is a bit old fashioned.

The search facility

-extra filter needed for height.

- the public photo filter doesn't work

-the interested in needs to change to a tick box so you can filter to multiple selections.

- add a key word feature.

Overall visual improvements.

Forums

-notifications options to receive notifications if someone posts in a forum post you write.

-easy ways to favourite or mute active posts to help engagement

Yeah it is, I know it's a "free site" but there are a number of paid up members and affiliate marketing, some of the money should go to upgrades on the site.

Not exact numbers no there is no efficient way to see site supporters numbers but if you where to say 10% active users are site supporters then from then alone there is members paying 14k a month. The site owners wont get all of that granted but that doesn't include affiliate fees and any other income. Can you tell me the last big change made as I haven't noticed 1 in 3 years.

Who needs innovation whatever that means?

I can see profiles and message people. They can see mine and message me.

We have the forums.

Search tools. Privacy tools. Verifications.

What else do you need to meet people?

What bells and whistles would improve the core function, chatting to people?

Not forgetting that it's all free.

Anything else is gloss and floss.

An update to the forum would be nice, notifications to threads you've commented on or subscribed to for example. Given that the site seems to be as much a support for the swinging community and a safe place for like minded individuals to talk about all sorts rather than just a Craigslist of wanna fuck now posts, these things could be of use. vBulletin for example is used on all sorts of forums a lot of which are free for members. It supports sharing of images in threads, setting up of members only areas for site supporters, customisation of appearance and can work well on mobile.

We love fabs, we get what we need from it, would I like to see more features for my money? Yeah I suppose. If a similar site came along with the features I like would I jump ship? I'd certainly take a look. However we only really use the mobile app, we'd want mobile app improvements. We love the site, but could see it being easily replaced by something more modern. Hopefully run by the same people that provide the great service we already have.

If you are on pc at the bottom of the page there should be a blog by the guy who originally set up fab.

Looking at the timing of it (around 2008 i think) It detailed how the site only cost a couple thousand to set up, How quickly the site grew compared to similar sites and how succesful the site was becoming.

I think the site was sold off around 2012? when the blog posts ceased.

Since that time theres been a few "Major" updates but nothing that warrant them making millions per year,

Even counting in cost to the business they are profitable with the site supporters model and advertising.

The whole meet area needs sorting. The whole point of the site is to meet up with people yet they have 6 or 7 areas to choose when looking through the meets. And you can’t search the meets for the type of people that want to meet you.

If I click look at meets on Saturday I’m birmingham 150 come up, I can select couples only and 60 come up . But I can’t then search for those that want to meet a mf couple or those that are just in Birmingham . I have to search every meet in West Midlands .

I’d love to see the site in app format. So it’s crisper and less clunky.

But hey! It works so that’s all that matters.

Can’t do that because people use the hot list for a not list (not us I may add)

Ok how about the other way. You add someone to your hotlist & an option pops up. “Allow this person to know they are on your hotlist?”

You click yes, nothing happens though....until they look at your profile when it’ll be highlighted at the top of the screen. They don’t have to do anything with the info & you probably don’t know they’ve looked at your profile as more & more use the secret squirrel function.

But what it might do is take a little of the “Shall I, Shan’t I”. Away.

If you use the hotlist as a hot/not/avoid like the plague list then you have the yes/no option to differentiate between them.

It would be good, when searching through the “meets” section if you had the chance to filter who people are looking for. There are tick boxes to choose whose posts you see (M, F, MF etc) but not to see who they’re looking for. It’s a chore sometimes having to scroll through a whole list looking for a meet that’s simply looking for M or MM.

Ah but it is not ' all free'

In order to take advantage of any if the interesting bits of the site you need to be a paid supporter no ? Otherwise it's just basic and not much of a fun experience to use at all .

Can I hazard a guess that you do not work in the industry of web design/ development.

This site has at time of writing almost 30,000 people online. Assuming that's say a quarter of total users (and it's probably not) that's 120,000 active subscriptions, are you aware the bandwidth, server needed for that kind of user engagement, it's roughly £4000 per 10,000 users - allowing for adequate storage for each users images etc and assuming they are not having to use specialist hostess due to the nature of this site.

They are having to make constant security updates as well as compliance upgrades. All of which you do not see.

UI (user interface) is the last thing they will change and only when they do not have all the rest to deal with.

Charge every single male a quid if they want to send a wink to a couple that doesn’t want winks from single males.

It will either slash web traffic or fill the coffers sufficiently to upgrade the site. Either way, it’s a win!

Oh this is the type of info I wanted about another thread to do with cost of a site set-up.

At last I get it!

Fair warning though. Don't discuss too much, it doesn't fair well with admin... apparently!

All about context. Asking people how much it would cost for you to set up a website for a competing site is totally different to making a general comment on a thread.
