I get the reasoning but the tools for parents to stop their kids from being able to access over 18 content has been available for years so this rule shouldn't be required if all parents just used what was already there.

Most tech savvy kids will know how by pass those controls and also the governments new controls

The UK decided to implement some of the toughest internet controls in the world. Porn sites will all be accessible to over 18s only, who will have to prove it. Sites will be blocked if they don't implement it.

A few years ago UK taxpayers paid £millions to all landline and mobile internet providers, to introduce an under 18 internet service as well as over 18. Every single internet connection already has controls that can achieve the same - and we've all paid for that to be done.

Now law abiding citizens will have to prove they are adults each site they visit. It's atrocious and only because parents are letting their family access adult content. It's thus likely that they still will.

The systems don't work properly, so it's a mindless fiasco, done by the government spending money when there are real priorities instead. But someone votes for them!
