Messages being 'incorrectly' marked as 'Read'

We have noticed that if a person messages and then messages again before we respond to the first message, the first message becomes marked as 'Read' even though we didn't open it.

This issue then makes the sender believe we are ignoring them because they can also see that the message was 'Read'.

We don't recall this ever being an issue in the past and appears to be a recent bug.

I wondered what was going on!

It says the message has been replied to on mine, but there is no reply in my sent messages.

Sorry yeah 'Replied' is the word I meant to write, not 'Read', oops

But yeah the issue is present and is quite annoying
