Anyone know whether it is possible to rescind a verification, e.g. should you "fall out" with someone due to their actions & no longer want the verification you wrote to appear on their profile as you do not want to be associated with them?

"Only way is to block them"

But remember that if you unblock them, the veri then re-shows, it doesnt delete the veri, just hides it from public view. Likewise any veri they gave you. If its your only veri, you dont lose the green tic.

you can just remove it from your profile via manage verifications (basically hiding it from view) x

That won't have any effect on a veri that you have left for them, you need to block them.

You verify people to say they are genuine.

Just because you fall out it doesn't mean they suddenly become not genuine.
