Hi,

We're going live tomorrow with some new technology on private mail page that we think will help cut down on unwanted contacts and help people avoid wasted time writing to someone who probably isn't interested.

If you're writing to someone for the first time:

* You'll be notified if you're outside the age range even if they haven't blocked others outside that range

* If you've already mailed someone before but you've not received a reply back, you'll be advised of that.

* If you're not what they're looking for e.g. you're mailing a female and she's looking for couples and you're not a couple, you'll be advised of that.

* If you're new to the site and you don't get have photos, you'll be told you'll get more success if you have them.

etc.

(you can still write a mail but the message will prompt you to think before doing so)

If you get a lot of mail, we hope this will help improve the quality of contacts you get by mail.

If you send mail and don't get many replies, we hope this will help you avoid messaging people who are less likely to be interested.

This will go live tomorrow, Tues 17th Jan.

When people who message you, who are blocked because you have filters up, like no profile pics - do they get an explanation of why they are blocked, or just the old "they are not interested" or "they dont want to hear from you" message?

We've not changed how that works as part of this. But 9/10 they get a message e.g. outside age range, no pics, or whatever the filter block reason is.

This change is now live.

We'll be looking at various site metrics to see what effect it has but would welcome feedback from what you see, too.

I can see a lot of good in this, but I also see a downside, I've had people write to me outside my age range, and had some nice meets after chatting a while, I'd hate to think I'd miss out on that

We're not stopping anyone mailing, just making them aware.

And if you have had good meets ouside your age range, you can always change your "looking for" age range.

found a couple profile where we are outside their age range (Aged from 18 to 34) yet when clicked on Send Message got no warning [and no previous contact with them showing]

did just try messaging a Single Fem and got the warning "THINK" so it appears to work
