"Ok it's time! Yes, the time has arrived to upgrade Fab's inadequate and boring emoticons. They have hardly any range, most people are using that damn green head with the grin when they really want to show tears of laughter. It feels like being smothered. Then, if you forget to put an emoticon in between text, having the cursor in the place you want it won't matter, the emoticon will get placed at the end of the text and you have to copy and paste it where you want it. How about more emoticons eh?" Definitely with the second point, this banging the emoticon at the end of the message has baked our noodle for some time now!  | |||

"Emojis don't express the written word. Both the written word and emojis and all pictures and symbols and sounds - including letters for that matter - are expressions of abstraction and thought and communicate ideas. That's why they're called 'emoticons' or 'emojis' from 'emotion' or 'emoting'! About letters... All letters are pictures to express concepts and emoticons are no different. It's only because we have lost the meaning of the symbols that we think they are not actually pictures or emoticons but they are. It's no different from say written Chinese. So yes, especially in social media and forums where the emotion of the person has become as important as the idea they are sharing, emoticons are important. We are not all writing dissertations here. We're replacing in-person communication. You could write "angry face" and even that wouldn't be the same as saying you're angry. Emoticons ARE written language, at least in social media. Just look up how modern letters come from emoticons and pictures (hieroglyphs for example).  | |||

About letters... All letters are pictures to express concepts and emoticons are no different. It's only because we have lost the meaning of the symbols that we think they are not actually pictures or emoticons but they are. It's no different from say written Chinese. So yes, especially in social media and forums where the emotion of the person has become as important as the idea they are sharing, emoticons are important. We are not all writing dissertations here. We're replacing in-person communication. You could write "angry face" and even that wouldn't be the same as saying you're angry. Emoticons ARE written language, at least in social media. But you done a great thread on that with really good posts from people giving ideas. It all depends if fab owners/admin will take action. They probably will at some point, but just takes time. I have seen good changes happening and fab is better function wise then it was back in 2015. | |||
