"Ah the age old question... I think the issue is separating is an utter can of worms, there’s so many arguments for further separation but practically speaking do the ‘searchers’ appreciate the finer terminology... For my 2p’s worth Id rather we stuck with a single bracket and used our profile overview to give our specific detail... far less hassle asso many ‘divides’ are more mental than physical anyway " Re your last point that assumes people read profiles and unfortunately we know many do not

"I find that it's a handy no effort filter when it's obvious someone hasn't taken a minute or two to read the profile . " Exactly Gerri, and as a 'real lifer' I'm pretty sure you use it to good effect x

"Yeah. Totally agree. I'm not post op but i live full time as a woman and I'm just waiting for an appointment at the gender clinic in Edinburgh. I've been referred. There us a difference between tv and tg" I love that statement, so many transgendered girls state it but never give the detail, what is the difference in your opinion that makes us warrant a separate classification on site?

"Perhaps someone who is post op could offer insight as to why they still wish to use a trans identifier?" Its pretty straightforward. Two completely different things. Just about any dictionary would explain why. Both Transvestite and Transsexual are originally medical terms used as a diagnosis. They do not mean the same thing and are not interchangeable. Other sites offer the options and even beyond, such as Pre-Op or Post-Op. I'd identify as a Post Op TS given the choice. Which is significantly different to someone who dresses as the opposite sex for a variety of reasons. Although that's also fine. It would just be fairer to have the option.

I can live with sharing the group with any TS or CD .so why cant a TS do the same .why do you want to be some special case .we are all equal .its like splitting hairs

"Perhaps someone who is post op could offer insight as to why they still wish to use a trans identifier?" To clarify ... If your post op, have a GRC and live as a female why are you still identifying (lets say just on fab for arguements sake) as TV/TS when you are (for the label id) legally a woman?

If your post op, have a GRC and live as a female why are you still identifying (lets say just on fab for arguements sake) as TV/TS when you are (for the label id) legally a woman?" That would be my personal choice. The biggest thing happening for Transgender people just now is reform of the Gender Recognition Act. Consultation only just finished but will hopefully remove some of the barriers to obtaining a GRC. I don't need one. I have a female passport and a female hospital number. I don't desperately need to change my birth certificate as it was correct at the time. Legally female is correct but it would be disingenuous to portray myself as a Woman here when I can really only state I am a Post Op Transsexual if being honest and upfront.
