So this has been talked about for years on here, but when will the site take notice and change the rubbish location settings on here?

I just did a search for Meets/events tonight in the East Mids, and only 7 of them out of an entire 2 full pages of people are even in the East Midlands.

It's ridiculous. Derby, Nottingham, Chesterfield, Sheffield, Leicester, Leeds etc - these places are nowhere near the East Midlands! It also picks up places in Essex as well - the region search for meetings is useless.

Sort it out.

We live in Warwick , Warwickshire but local searches bring up people 120 plus miles to the north but no one 10 miles down the road .

If we change search areas then we end up with people 100 miles south of us .

Smaller search areas woul be good please.

It is very outdated now and geographical areas are ridiculous when looking for local meets.

It would be so much more practical if all counties were listed and you could pick and choose the ones you wanted.

As I just said, this very subject has been going on on here for literally years - which means it's roundly ignored.

Colchester is classed as the East Midlands, yet we are only 50 miles from London, nip 15 miles down the road to Chelmsford and that is classed as the South East.

I looked on the meets page and we could have a meet that night if we were prepared to travel 200 miles.

As people say, it needs sorting but it seems that our £5 every 60 days is better spent elsewhere, where elsewhere is, I have no idea.

Better spent elsewhere seems to be on things like the 'Fab' photos pages, which to me is completely pointless.

This site is now being used as a social media platform for a lot of people which I can only think the site owners see as a bigger revenue stream than anything else. The contact/meeting element is secondary now.

If they overhauled the crappy location/search system this site would be a lot better for those of us that want to use it for it's original purpose.

Every 'improvement' in recent years has been based around the photograph aspect of the site.

has been pointed out on many threads. Admin never reply to confirm or deny their plans or motives. A list of what improvements they are thinking of working or what they are working on would help.

It might even recruit more people to the site, it is noticeable there are few new members in this region, the "new in the last 5 days" option around here is usually a pretty empty search.

Exactly this. It's good to finally have some people coming on this thread as back-up for a change.

This isn't the first time I've moaned about it but still no site feedback in here...isn't this the site feedback forum??

Essex is in the south east.

If I do a search on here using the East Midlands area, I get Yorkshire, Essex, Leicestershire!

To be fair, even county based searches could be highly inaccurate. If you live near the border of a county, then there will be people a few miles away in a different county but others hundreds of miles away in the same county.

A "within 25 miles" type of area would be better, but probably require paying for Google location services or something similar.

I am Chelmsford - Colchester and browsing for F meets looking for M on Thursday 26 th Apr.

All I find in East Midlands is Leicester / Nottingham / Derby etc. No way I can get there from my work in London.

That's bad ... BUT ?it looks to be fixed so that's good ? .

East Anglia is the worst region in many ways! So difficult to get to and from and very sparsely populated (with the kind of people I'd like to meet, anyway)

Absolutely.

I haven't lived here long (I'm a Londoner) and you're absolutely right, it's miles to anyone from the Norwich area. Very thin on the ground in terms of the type of people I'm used to as well. Plus people are oddly rude and unfriendly round here, at least on here anyway.

This is more about the crappy search function on here, than it is about how to find people in the area. There is quite literally no option to search for people in East Anglia.

Near Okehampton.

We totally agree. We are in North Hertfordshire. Lots of people say Hertfordshire is in East Anglia.

Currently on here we come under South East.

So when we do put a 'Meet Today' on we have to do it in 3 areas

East Midlands to hopefully catch someones eye in maybe Colchester / Cambridge etc (an hours drive)

South East

fairly locally, but that also gets Kent, Surrey, Sussex, Hampshire, South East Essex.

Greater London

Again 20mins south down the A1 or South London

Browsing is a bit easier as you can stipulate distance in mileage

Fabswingers... moderators, whoever may read this thread, please do something about the situation.

Frankly the people search and areas is crap.

Scotland is a big place, East Anglia does not go from Derby to Southampton, let’s get it sorted.

Answers please, stop hiding and let’s develop the site into a fantastic site where we can actually find people close by.

The plan is to remove the regions since they are largely nonsense (and, as has been spotted, East Anglia is missing)

Most folks use the advanced search on which this has already happened. The regions on profile will be removed. If people want to add their general location the the "location" which says their town/city or whatever, then they'll be free to do that.

The meets system will change to work like the advanced search via radius on location/postcode.

If you're still using the old/legacy search to search profiles (which uses regions) then your best bet is to move over to the new style .

We hope to have an updates on the meets system in the not too distant future.

East Anglia has gone and is encompassed by East Midlands now but this is an even bigger area. So this doesn’t help.

The Postcode search is okay if you know a Postcode! I don’t know any others apart from my own, that’s why we still need a more accurate location search I think.

Have a look and see the options given, East Midlands covers Derbyshire to sometimes Southampton! Scotland is one search! 300 miles can be between meets.

Yup we're in Essex and have the same problem. We have to post in either East Midlands or London... both of which can pick up an area over 100 miles from where we actually are. There's been loads of requests/suggestions over the years for the regions to be split but still nothing so sad why cant be have more options. ie. East Anglia, Essex.. it must be same for up north - big areas covered over 100s of miles.
