Iceland, but Aldi is closer..

Generalising a little, there are three types of forum users:

-the prolific posters, those whose names are well known and create many of the regular and popular threads.

-The regular users, those post a few times a day and maybe create a thread of their own on occasions.

- the lurkers, those that will read posts and maybe on occasion post on a thread.

Now there is a common comment that I've read numerous times in that they some their posts are never read, true or not, those people eventually become disillusioned and stop posting..

Most forums or blogs around today have a "like" radio button below the posts so others can show an appreciation of the post, a positive reinforcement of the fact(the thumbs up/down can be used negatively)

I appreciate it's a little Facebookess in approach But such an option allows more people to become engaged in the threads that they would otherwise not post to and those that lurk unseen can make themselves known and. For the poster, it will enforce the fact that they are not invisible and will see that their comments are appreciated.

Without an increase in engagement bringing new and varied opinions and thoughts, the threads will become dull with the same subjects being repeated like a literary ground hog day..

Thoughts on this, good or bad?

if people don't fab their comments they might feel the same way?

i like how people are taking their cliques to their own topics, it started with the BBW threads and i didn't look at many of them (as they were of no interest to me) but i did notice the regular posters were welcoming to anyone joining in on their thread and thought that was nice of them.

i'm not against the fabbing comments thing, just am seeing ways where people can become more included into the forum.

for me personally i'd rather chat to people than have my comments liked. but still not against the idea.

Brighton - even Hove!

The same subjects do pop up but there are always people new to the forum for which they are new subjects to them. It's not necessarily a popularity contest - it's just a forum. You can't know the reasons why people leave or don't post.
