sort mail into folders?

Adding own folders into inbox would be great but appreciate this is prob to much trouble but recently tried to move all messages from a friend to the saved folder I had to go into each message click save then remove from main inbox.

Is it possible to check the box's on left hand side and have the ability to move into saved folder all checked messages, as currently used to delete messages
