Why doesn't block apply to forum

I've had my fair share of attention from idiots on here and have obviously blocked them. But they can still see my posts on the forum and quote them in their posts. It makes me very uncomfortable. Why doesn't the block apply on the forum? Is it a conscious decision or due to technical reasons?

I guess a forum is just that, an open and public scenario.

That's why I'm asking if it's a decision that's been made by the powers that be. Sadly doesn't help those like me who have had guys who won't take no for an answer.

But why should one person be able to stop someone posting on the forum.

If someone blocked you and prevented you post on threads would that be fair?

I think the point OP is making is that if you block someone...they should not be able to see your posts?

most of the people I have blocked because they either live too close to me or from how they come across in the forums...

if you are having problems with certain individuals then report them to admin..

Imagine if some people had some, not all,but some blocked,on an open discussion, there would be no coherence in the thread.

i've seen this mentioned before, it really wouldn't matter as you don't want to see the blocked persons posts. you could still talk to others in the thread (or yourself).

But forums are often sequential. The sense would be lost. Rather like a paragraph with alternate words missing?

not for anyone who hasn't blocked that person.

and the person who has blocked them won't care.

It is strange to block someone but they can still communicate with you in forum. Most likely there's a technical reason for it. XXX

Anyone should be able to use the forum, however creepy they are. However if you feel they're posting to get round a block thats against forum rules, and you can report them.

Anyone can answer anything posted on the forum whether you are blocked or not, it isn't against rules to do that

I'm pretty sure you're not allowed to quote someone or even try & belittle someone on a forum thread.

I would report it next time it happens & keep on doing so. Without a paper trail as it were, Admin will struggle to intervene X

The forum rules say you are not allowed to use threads to try contact people who have blocked you ... but it might not be immediately obvious to the forum moderators what they are doing ... report their posts and it will likely result in a forum ban which should give them the message ... if they continue probably a lifetime ban

None of the above would get a forum ban ie answering or quoting someones post whether they are blocked from a mailbox or not.

If the person asked to be unblocked/ asked why they were blocked , then that is against forum rules.

Most people wouldn't know if someone has them blocked unless they looked at their profile anyway, plus no mod knows who has the next person blocked or filtered out anyway

If someone is making a point of letting you know they are watching you then surely thats harrassment and should be dealt with ? I didnt read it like they just happened to be chatting in the same forum

But let's put that into a real life context. Someone at work or a social club asks you out on a date. You turn them down. It does not mean they are barred from discussions that you have at work or at your social gathering.

However if they kept turning conversations into dating opportunities then your colleagues and friends would rightly tell them to go away.

We often join in forum conversations which contain people we have met and would meet again. People who have turned us down and people we have turned down. But replying or quoting them does not mean we are after a hook up.

Her OP didn't say that , she said it makes her feel uncomfortable and the second point she made was to think someone was watching her and not that she was harrassed.

If however she thinks the person is harrassing her then yes that is best reported, but answering a post on the forum should not be confused with harrassment.

If the blocked party attempts to converse via forum it's a breach of forum rules and they will be banned from them for 48 hrs but as its a public chat area they are as welcome as u op and my only problem with it is when the blockee goads the blocked party by Inviting a comment

Sometimes they are talking directly to them though, quoting their comments and asking them questions via the forum. I have this happen to me.

It's been suggested many times that blocks also hide each other's forum content.

I've seen it working in other online forums I've been a member of so know it's possible.

Just keep pestering Admin with the suggestion. One day they might listen.

You get a forum ban for trying to communicate via the forum with someone who has blocked you. You won't get a ban for just responding to a post within site rules. People might not realise they're blocked and just be replying out of general interest.

Theres a thing called freedom of speech it's what our ancestors fought for the right to express their opinion if we stop everyone who has been blocked from going on forums then their would be no forum threads as everyone here is blocked in one way or another wether they're aware of it or not

It would be trivially easy to do if admin changed the forum software to one that had been coded this century. Fab's forum is one of the worst you'll find anywhere on the internet, from a technical standpoint. Anyone could go to Invision and set one up for free that would be light years ahead of what we use now.

But they've no interest in changing it, so if won't change.

I don't think people are asking for them to be blocked from using the forum. Just that people they've blocked can't see their posts.

I dont think anyone was suggesting that someone blocked would not be able to use the forums ... just that people who had blocked each other would not see each others posts when they do use the forums

A bit like the way facebook wont show you comments posted or tags on a mutual friends page if you have the person blocked i guess ... you basically never come across them again

So what we're saying is yes post in forums but only be able to see anyone's post you haven't blocked or been blocked by to save upsetting them and then miss vital points and make an arse of yourself by maybe responding to a comment because u can't see full content of the thread mmm that seems ok not it's sensorship by default the forum rules take care of breaches on rules quite apply without the need for sensorship

This exact thing already happens in chat and people seem to get along fine

Also people constantly repeat other comments in threads anyway probably just because they cant be bothered reading every one and again we get along fine so how having the odd comment hidden from you wouldmake a difference i am not sure

it just seems extreme if someone u blocked pesters u in forum then just report to admin simple but if they're just making an innocent comment in response to a comment where's the issue .some people are just a bit oversensitive and will make an issue out of nothing
