Why is this site so out of sync? I look at a profile and it says online now. Send a message, in debt messages they show offline. Check their profile and they still show online. Same with searches. There's also a time lag between local, friends and hotlist statuses.

I wouldn't say it's 'so out of sync'....

The site has around a 5 min delay... Someone could be showing online but signed off in the last few mins..

Because all of this is so important, an instant response is imperative? I never quite understand the need to be aware of when people are on line...on our old profile we had the blue dot removed...I don't think they offer that any more...

The refresh rate of this site is about 3 to 5 minutes.

So don't worry about mailing someone just because they are online, it doesn't make them anymore likely to reply then if you send it when they are offline, they will answer if and when they feel like it.
