Search for ethnicity, a tad racist?

Hi

I'm rather curious as to why you chose to allow users to filter their results by ethnicity but not by any other user metrics such as height, build, tattoos etc.

It seems rather strange that for some reason you are allowing people to have racial preferences but not like big or slim people for example.

Any chance you could explain this, well ill call it what it is, mildly racist search option?

I have no issue with it if you let users search by all the available criteria but singling out race seems to be a bad idea to me!

I don't think it is ethnically biased but the point the OP makes that it could certainly look that way when you aren't able to filter other attributes that are more relevant.

I think most users would support much more detailed search filters and options for putting in more types of information but that's been true for years.

It wasn't there when I originally joined, but lots of request for it. Why does it have to mean anyone is racist.

Yes some other option would be nice, but come so many lie or don't describe themselves correctly anyway.

Not quite sure what some people use to measure there height and body types is laughable sometimes.

Maybe because everyone views themselves differently, because I think someone is fat doesn't mean they think of themselves as fat, someone with 10 tattoos might not class themselves as heavily tattooed, someone with 10 piercings might not think they are heavily pierced, etc etc etc, so how can you filter it? You can't.

Racist or not being able to search for a certain ethnicity is all well and good, but still could be wasting time if they're not looking for you type.

Surely it's not necessarily about racism and more about saving peoples time.

I do agree that more filters would be good, like another site I used to use were they had the things your suggesting even things like religion where included, but the cost of that site was just too much.

How much can we ask of Fab's administration considering so many use the site for free

"

All those refernaces to size etc are relevant to opinion. Allowing a non exact version of a persons size such as fab accepts makes for no firm grounds on personal preference thus resulting in a purely objective view. They allow height to be specific yet decide size is relative to opinion.

For example I'm 6'2" which by comparison to the average jockey (should I be in that world) would be very large yet if I was a basketball player I'd feel small and may describe myself as such.

My point is that using a mid of specific and subjective variables to assettain people's views of themselves makes for very ambiguous results and makes it impossible to search fairly for people you may or may not be attracted to as some thing such as race or high the are counted as facts and this can be searched upon and others such as size are relative to the individuals view of themselves and thus unusable.

Having such ill though out search criteria and metrics makes for both a bad user experience and make the site weighted to (in this case) "racist" (tenuous use of that word) views yet size or weight are deemed inappropriate.

Look forward to everyone's responses.

Having worked I web development regularly I'm very sure that adding a variables that already exist in their database to the search options is not only simple it's realitivly cheap and requires little more development time than it has taken me to write the meany response to this post. Assuming a competent coder is behind the site and the architecture is relatively sound.

Personally I'm a little confused as to who you think the search criteria is racist against? All Races are available for everyone's personal preference. If you can think of a race of people missed from the list then I would love to know, and then I could maybe understand your point (Obviously Neanderthal's are not in existence any more, so don't play that card).

Race isn't the ONLY filter though is it? You have age, sex and location don't forget.

It's not perfect, but I don't think it's racist. I certainly don't think it's intentional been done that way.. Which is when youd be well within your rights to hand out the race card.

My point must have not been clear as everyone seems to be reiterating the same things and not taking my original point that it's not ok to say you like thin or fat on this site or short or tall.

If you like mowhaks etc that's perfect and if they add a field to allow hair style then it to should be searchable.

Basically I'm saying that the search is shit and that why have they singled out race and why do you all feel that's ok.

I agree hat everyone has their types and that that's brilliant. I also agree that it's most likely unintentional

and that when whom Weber programmed this they decided. That age, sex, location and race were the things you could search on.

If your going to have a basic search ASL makes sense. If your gonna have a good search then all available variables I.e. Hight, build, race, sexual preference, kinks etc should all be filters.

Be it racist or not to single out race as the only searchable discriminating factor is somewhat irelavant but what is is that fact that the search is shit!! Lol.

Ps. Maybe the emoji making task was sent to the minions and they modelled them after themselves.
