Now that brexit is over.....

Now that brexit is over I think it would be a good idea to get rid of the politics forum and begin to assimilate politics back into the lounge. I know this is a bit divisive, but I think both forums would be better for it.

Just something to consider

I think people will have much more to debate if and when article 50 is triggered the referendum was a non-legally binding vote to get the peoples opinion it still has to be voted on and passed in parliment along with all the negotiations after were in for some interesting times

Right. But do you think the politics forum should remain separate or that it can be incorporated back into the lounge?

Haverfordwest

I prefer to see it in a separate topic, not mixed in with the lounge.

I do think the quality of the lounge has deteriorated since the politics forum was formed.

You were right to create a separate politics forum re the brexit but I really think the lounge is suffering now a result of its departure.

We need the gritty debates to run alongside the love ins

Some people belive that mixed abilities are a good thing because the higher abilities raise the lower ones. Others believe in segregation because they believe the lower abilities drag the higher abilities down.

Both statements are true to some extent. It's personal preference to which system provides the greater good. Personally I would not be returning to political debates in the lounge. Except for my beloved brier score game. Can't let that die out.

After a brief sojourn into the politics forum tonight, I think I may retract my original post. You guys really should be segregated.

The arguement is basically the same as state vrs private schools debate in my opinion...

I whole heartedly agree that it should be returned to the Lounge. Or maybe keep the politics forum, but if a politics related thread is started in the Lounge and has different people commenting on it without descending into abuse between the same four posters, it doesn't automatically have to be moved. It's horrific down there now, and I wouldn't want that replicated in the Lounge.

Newcastle and Gateshead

i did make the case that if you wanted to be a policy wonk and debate minutiae then sure the politics forum is great for that.... and it had been interesting to see i am not the only one that was "wonkish"..

i do believe there is a difference between discussing politics and policy... and discussing current affairs and topics in the general news cycle.... and that is where i think those should end up in the lounge....

because anytime anything remotely "meaty" is posted in the lounge, one of the fluff brigade will scream... "thats politics"... and off it disappears...

Sheffield

The level of discussion in the politics forum also suffers imo.

Because there are only a small minority who bother going into it now. They tend to have very entrenched ideas so most threads have a tendency to be re-iterations of unmoving opinions.

Being in the lounge would tempt a wider cross section of people to post.

MrB

Ps MrsB thinks thank god its gone, so it's not an easy one

From what I can see there are about 4/5 threads in the last week that could have gone in the Lounge and all of them look as though they were started in the Politics forum and were not moved, so I dont think many get moved at all.

I certainly havent moved any to the Politics forum since the first few days after it was opened, but I have moved a few from there into the Lounge.

On other sites there are separate Politics Forums as well as other types of Forums. I like the idea of different categories & capable of jumping to whatever category I'm in the mood for, or in topics that catch my interest. So my vote is keep the categories seoerate, then choose what you're in the mood for.

Totally agree. I used to be a regular on the subject but since it was banished it has become more wonkish and too exclusive now. It's the lounge for general inclusive or not at all for me.

Easy to avoid the "twonks" (someone elses choice of word) by keeping out of the politics forum
