Email notifications not working?

I've just noticed I'm not getting any email notification that I have PMs in FAB.

Is the FAB mail server down?

Ok it's working again. Something failed to start when we rebooted a server this-morning. Any email notifications generated in that period won't have been sent.

They will of course be on the site.

On a side note, when I used Hotmail for the notification emails, they would often be delayed and then, if id been mailing someone back and forth, all the notifications would be like busses and all come at once!

Use Gmail now and is much better (and much more secure)

If you're using hotmail, be sure to check your junk email inbox folder.

I've discovered a few in there in the past.

As well as being unsecure (99% of of hacked accounts we see are people losing control of their hotmail/msn/live accounts), hotmail is awful at dealing with spam. Lots of our mails we send to hotmail addresses just end up getting junked.

We'd recommend switching to gmail which seems to mostly work and recognise what is and is not spam OK

Update ...

Wwe have recently become aware that the server which deals with notifications has been stolen.

It was made from mainly copper (one of the older servers - the newer ones are made from plastic) and we believe the local 'boys' have weighed it in at the local scrap metal dealers in order to raise a few quid to buy a slab or two of strong lager.

Normal service will be resumed when we can afford to replace the server. SJ is currently removing our copper water tank and associated pipework as we speak in an effort to raise some funds to replace the missing equipment...
