lock old forum threads

I don't know if I'm the only one, but I think it would be a good idea to lock a forum thread when there hadn't been any new posts for x number of days. It can be a little annoying to open what seems to be a new thread, just to find it was actually started overcast year ago.

Obviously there could be provision for administration to allow a thread to be re-opened for a good reason.

I like old threads being bumped.

It's interesting to see what the 'topic of the day' was back then, who was posting on them, if they still post now and even if they're still on fab now.

But you'll still be able to read them... just not post. It just seems more sensible than people posting replies to questions that haven't been relevant for 18 months.

I'm going to have to be a No on this too.

There are some fantastic old threads, especially some music ones, or matters which become current again, & if I want to know when a thread was started I can look at the date on the first post.

I can understand them locked when they reach the posting limit, but if it's not reached that limit then that's memory/space still available for use.

Besides, it's nice to stroll down memory lane sometimes & easy enough to see the original date using the sites facilities as intended.

(PS: Yes, I do see the point about posting on an old thread in error which I've done when I forgot to check the originating post date, but I put that down to my error.)
