E-mail notification delays

Anyone else having problems receiving the e-mail notifications of when a message has been received etc?

For the last few days such messages are taking ages to get through - over 12 hours in some cases.

I'm with BT and, helpful as ever,they say settings are fine and, as advised by them, I sent myself a test e-mail which was received immediately, the problem must lie elsewhere.

It's not just Fab that delays are happeneing with either.

Any thoughts or solutions welcomed!

Email is rarely instant as most servers queue things up and do them when they are not busy. A bit like the Post Office hence POP protocol post-office protocol which is how email works. Professional IT tranny!

This is a problem specific to BT internet email users. We've had lots of people with the same issue. There's nothing we can do to resolve it. You might want to change to googlemail who deliver the mail as soon as they receive it.

I've changed to a gmail account and sent myself a test message. Notification came through straightaway. Result!

Mine stopped about a fortnight ago... they're in my DG hotmail but I forwarded that to my vanilla hotmail and I've no idea what the password is. I fear I'm going to get swamped!
