Admin closing threads

Why are admin so quick to close threads in forums? Soon as a thread get 100+ comments good or bad, its quickly closed by admin/moderator!!

Im not that clued up tech wise but im a member of some car forums online and threads on there could have thousands of comments!! Is it do with the server?? Can they get a bigger one?? Lol

They arent closed by Admin or mods - its done automatically at 175 with a message "Closed - too big'

If a thread get closed by Admin/ forum mods it says 'Closed by moderator'

I think it's something to do with those of us on mobiles struggling to scroll past zillions of posts. If they're still popular people often open a 'part 2'
