How about 2 separate inboxes, one for priority or friend messages and the second for non friends. I believe this will help for those people who get inundated with messages and save them time and won't miss out on ones they are hoping for.

But there already is a friend icon so you can sort the wheat from the chaff

I know but if you have tons of messages you ain't going to see the icon, that's why a separate box would be easier.

I can quite easily look through my inbox and see what messages are from friends and which one aren't

This is for us unpushy men, I know that women get a multitude of mail, and if you mail them if offline you have no chance.

How about a mail is deleted automatically if not read the next time you logged in, however friends and previously answered mail exempt.
