What do people think to this...???

Would it be possible to add to a profile, something to the effect that "this profile-holder replies to x% of messages received"?

It ought to be possible to get the software to work out the percentage from the number of posts received and the number that are logged as "replied".

There are other things that show how genuine a person/people are (validations etc) and I think that this will be a valuable addition to:

1) show people what chance they stand of getting a reply from their message

2) of encouraging people to at least send out "no thanks" replies rather than ignoring and deleting messages.

3) making the site a nicer place.

Thoughts? comments? ridicule? anyone...

Its a ridiculous idea because how can the % be worked out where one is chatting via messages to friends? I had 50 messages over 2 days; some were messages left over from friday along with some new people, saturday was more messages from friends, so quite frankly i dont think its possible

Because the software that runs the site does a count of how many messages arrive in your inbox. You will also see that some that you reply to are marked "replied". Then it's just a matter of the mathematics.

It's not perfect, but at least you get to see who the "zero percenters" are that you'd be wasting your time writing to.

With a bit of clever programming, the system could say "x%" replied to within 3 days and "y%" replied to within 7 days.

I have a lot of messages in my sent box for several weeks, that are "unopened" and yet the users show up as regularly logging on. You take the deletions on the chin, you are a bit happier when you get a "no thanks" and even happier still when you get a "yes please", but the unopened ones do my head in.

How do you know though that the people that are writing to the "zero percenters" are people that match the "zero percenters" preferences and that they actually deserve to be replied to?

Why not just let people have their own choices and reply to who they want to and not have them classed as anything but "people who run their profile/time on Fab the way they see fit to" or is that just a too sensible an idea!

This system would demonise the most popular women.

Anyone getting dozens of useless messages a day would appear to be a non-replier, entirely due to the actions of others.

How would that be useful to anyone?

One of our other sites used to have this feature (%age of people replied to).

No one complained too much when we removed it, and it had side-effects as described above. People felt obliged to reply when we don't believe there should be an obligation.

Not to mention, repeatative messages.

EG if i messaged grey kitten and she didnt respond, so i kept messaging her until she blocked me then that would bring down her average a considerable amount

Who would single guys write to then?

We block single guys because of continuous unsolicited crap messages, and because we have been let down too many times by the ones we have entered into dialogue with.

Before you start citing about the "few who wreck it for the genuine guys", everyone who enters into dialogue believes they are speaking to a genuine guy.

Why? Some one may never reply to any messages - then one catches their eye and 'bingo' - this is a daft idea. They may also not hit the 'reply' button - may start with a fresh message - would that be counted? I know ladies who get a message every 30 seconds when they're online - most are dross, a lot haven't read the profile, there's no way they all merit a reply. Z

We answer 100% of the first mails we recieve from people, does that make us a "better couple to contact" ?

Of course not. 95% of our replies are not insulting but not nice when we point out that we are not

We don't meet people without seeing pics of both

We don't meet people without pictures

You have wasted our time by not bothering to read our profile and we don't meet timewasters.

All points covered in our profile which of course most don't bother to read.

Our profile says we answer 100% of first mails recieved

So would you want to see a highlighted "we answer mails" and end up being a timewaster ? because that would happen, people would mail anyone who had a high percentage of "replies sent" showing and read profiles less often than they do now.

And as many will confirm, reply with a polite negative and many people will respond with abuse.

Since my last post on this thread we have recieved 2 mails from people that had not read our profile and we politely pointed out that they did not match our criteria and both sent abusive mails back then blocked us. ouch I am never going to sleep tonight because of that, but it is understandable why many people will not reply in the negative because some people cannot stand rejection.
