It is possible to read a message without opening it.

Does anybody else think that the ability to read a message without having to acknowledge you have done so is a bad thing?

If you are a site supporter you can look at the previous message and it shows you the new one in the thread.

This doesn't help if it's the first message though.

Agreed but if the receiver is forced to open the message just to see what it says and this is known to the sender then there can be no excuses like 'Sorry I didn't see the message'

But you can open the message then mark it as unread

Didn't know that, but that ability just adds to the 'deceit' being exercised by the recipient. Can't think of too many reasons why someone would not want you to know they had read your message and I certainly can't think of any that are honourable

Just don't want the possible hassle of that person messaging you again or to ask you why you didn't reply? Hate when i delete a message and someone asks why i deleted without replying, none of their business else i would have messaged them to let them know lol.

Also, stalkers. Some people create multiple accounts to message you from (if you block them), it's best to not let them know you acknowledge them.

Sometimes you do acciedntly read a message when you're deleting the ones you wanted to read, you can make it unread and delete it.

Probably other reasons as well.

I often read messages that require a longer reply than I have time to give, so will read it and mark it as unread to come back to when I have time to reply properly. Where's the deceit in that?

Or you could save it?

If we recieve a message, one of us will read it then mark it as unread so the other half can read it. Is that not honourable?

So you pretend to the other half that you haven't read the message?

No we don't `pretend' it's marking the message so either of us don't miss among the `read` messages. At the point we can confirm we have both read it then we will either reply or delete it.

Also we both check out the profile before opening the message if they have obviously ignored our profile, then we will instantly delete without reading.
