I'm not sure if this forum type supports it but if it does - would it be worth pining the most topics (ie bareback/safe rate-my-profile) so people who want to have this endless discussion do it in just one place rather than these multiple threads of the same old.

I know threads have a size limit but I think that can be lifted....

Just a thought. Also gives admin the option to close yet another bareback thread....

North of The Wall - youll need your vest

When this has been asked before the consensus is that people dont read the FAQs, or use the forum search, or even read the threads that are already running so they are not likely to read 'sticky' threads.

Also, posting those sorts of threads is often the way people try to get involved in the forums. I know that they can get a bit tedious for the 'old' forumites but 9/10 times you can guess what the thread is going to be about before you open it so they are pretty easy to avoid when you are fed up of reading them.

Anyway, when youve been here long enough theres no such thing as an original thread

Sticky thread! That's the word I was looking for!

That all makes sense as well just crossed my mind when I read the thread about profile reviews - I think the guy was more aiming for reducing duplicate threads.

Thanks for the reply though

Bump-ing this thread as I think it deserves a re-think.

I agree with _ezebel, as I do think some of these 'duplicate' threads are ways of people engaging with the forum. Hell, I've done it a couple of times myself. However, if you do frequent the forums - you'll realise the same thread topic will appear over and over again... every day.

Some of the more interesting & more relevant threads do get pushed down the pecking order.

I'm not suggesting that moderators will have to go around needlessly locking threads (they're busy!) that ignore the pinned post - but it may well act as a decent deterrent.

Any others think this would be beneficial?

O o O oo

No I don't think it would be beneficial...mainly as the threads get locked automatically on 175 posts...so all that would be on the front page is a load of sticky threads that no one can add to.

As the thread titles normally give you an indication of what is inside, they are easily ignored

I would suggest more of a 'guideline' per sections. Perhaps only one or two pinned posts. Could be advice, could be rules etc. Really up to the moderators.

I'm not suggesting that the number of posts per thread be changed. I agree, most & think it is somewhat of a good thing that they auto-lock after so long. The way this forum presents it's threads, it feels a little cumbersome scrolling to read all the content. Most of the relevant answers come early early, anyway.

What's better though... lots of '0 replies' threads, or less of the all-together?

You need two types:

- Sticky threads for the mods, guidelines and such. Stop spamming. Only the mods can post to.

- The popular threads need to be "rolling"; i.e. they show the initial question, and the most recent answers, however many that is (175?), and possibly a separate archive of older answers, which would be useful for the stories/fantasy forum.
